Very kid friendly office, from the waiting room to the doctors. I was very impressed! Now we wait and see how the prescription turns out!

We had a wonderful first visit with this doctor for our 6-month-old. They were incredibly kind, patient, and made us feel completely comfortable. They took the time to answer all of our questions and were so gentle with our baby. We’re really grateful to have found such a caring and attentive provider!

Everyone in the office was super friendly and the office waiting room was very kid friendly. The glasses are behind plexiglass so your kid cant get to them, there are 3 doors closing off the waiting room and the hallways so even if your kid runs away from the play area they are still not going anywhere. The waiting area has a climbing play house thing for kids and a table with some other toys on it for kids. My daughter is 2 and was being extra loud when we went cuz she was excited and having fun with thebother kids but everyone was kind and no one said anything about it. However i did off and on remind her we cant be loud or we will hurt our new friends' ears. The play house climbing thing also has a sound thing built into the ceiling that if your being SUPER loud it will trip the sensor and tell you you need to use your inside voice which is understandable because when i leaned in there to get my daughter I discovered how even though she was being loud from the outside it was much louder inside the playhouse thing, i mean it really amplified the sound. Also in the eye doctors room, where Dr. Sala checked my daughter's eyes, there is a blocks wall thing where your kid can connect Gumbo style Legos to the board on the wall. Absolutely love it!

Great staff, great doctors! Very knowledgeable and so great with kids! We had to take our 10 month old daughter there for esotropia, and they were very reassuring, that hopefully with the help of glasses it would improve her eye turn. Would absolutely recommend. Sad that Dr Sala is retiring, but glad to know he has been working very closely with Dr Cox to take over for him and continue the same level of care, compassion and knowledge!

Frequently Asked Questions About Pediatric Ophthalmology of Erie, Inc.

Is lazy eye surgery the only treatment option for amblyopia?

Lazy eye correction surgery is usually the last resort for treatment and is only done if other treatments have not been successful. Our team will recommend the most effective treatment based on your child's specific needs, which might include vision therapy, wearing an eye patch, or using eye drops that blur the stronger eye's vision, encouraging the weaker eye to work harder.

How long does amblyopic eye treatment take to be effective?

This depends on a variety of factors, including the severity of the condition and the chosen treatment method. Your child's eye doctor will be able to give you a more specific timeline, but this can vary, as well. Regular follow-up visits will be necessary to monitor progress and adjust the treatment plan as needed. Though treatment may take some time, it's crucial to understand that amblyopia does not resolve on its own. Without treatment, the weaker eye will lose vision, possibly leading to permanent loss of sight in that eye. However, if diagnosed and treated early, amblyopia can be successfully treated. The older the child gets, the more chances of success decline.
