Dr. Buraks asked me if I wanted my eyes dilated and I said no. She said, I declined last time (which was 2 years ago) so I really should let her look at the back of my eyes. This seemed like a fair request, so I conceded. Went back to the waiting room to pick out my frames while my husband had his eyes examined. In the meantime, my eyes are dilating which is making it nearly impossible to pick out my frames in a bright, sun filled room. Also, I'm getting a slight frontal headache. After about 5 minutes I give up on the idea of getting frames and sit down with the my sunglasses on, while I wait for Dr. Buraks to call me back to examine my now dilated eyes. When I get back into the examination room, she says, since you don't like your eye dilated, you may consider the retinal scan instead. It would have been nice to mention that before my eyes were dilated. Same thing happened with my husband during his exam, the retinal eye scan was mentioned after the fact and Dr. Buraks told him the cost would be $35. I would have paid the $35 to avoid having to leave without frames, which I now have to go back for somewhere and leave with a headache. I took a half day PTO to have this exam and pick out glasses and sunglasses and didn't get either pairs of glasses because it was hard to see after my eyes were dilated. Since my husband picked out his frames while I was getting my eyes examined, he was all set. He also had a frontal headache from the eye dilation. Take away message, if you are going to have your eyes dilated, pick your frames ahead of time because it's going to be nearly impossible to pick out frames after the fact. Also, be prepared to possibly experience a slight frontal headache from the procedure.
Now, on to the frames. From what I was able to see before it became hard to see, the frames are all light weight plastic frames and thin wire frames that look fragile. You will also pay top dollar for these frames. We have Vision Benefit of America eye insurance. For my husband's glasses, we paid $713 for a pair of glasses with lined, not progressive bifocals, and a pair of sunglasses that contained no bifocals, just distance vision. That total was with our insurance reimbursement of $125 for frames and 40% off the sunglasses frames due a special Pearle is running until the end of September 2025. Neither pair of his new glasses are noteworthy, and they look like they could have purchased at any discount eye center.
