I am a Director of Care at a Retirement Home here in Ottawa, I have the pleasure of working with Lucky who always goes above and beyond to ensure he assists in any way he can. I often provide Homeinstead's information for families looking for extra support for their loved ones and have heard nothing but great things.

We hired Home Instead to support us, at the hospital, when my 87 year old mother was recovering from surgery and we needed someone to cover the night shift. Unfortunately, when her condition declined rapidly and she passed away, the caregiver was only able to be with her (more in the hallway) for about three hours. Despite this, we were charged for the full 12‑hour shift. The caregiver, Gertrude was really nice and understood the predicament that we were in. I understand that agencies have policies, but compassion and flexibility matter in end‑of‑life situations. Being billed the full amount at such a vulnerable time felt disappointing and added stress during an already painful moment. I hope the company reviews how it handles situations involving sudden medical decline and death so other families aren’t put in the same position. UPDATED....the coordinator did communicate with the regional director after our email conversation and did reduce the total amount of the contract. I do appreciate the gesture.

Not sure if 30 years of service has led to complacency, but phone etiquette and follow-through should be reviewed — especially at the Director level. I submitted an online inquiry to arrange transportation support (pick-up from a medical appointment). The Director of Business Development emailed me in a tone that felt abrupt and impatient. He said he had called and left a voicemail, but it turned out the contact number was wrong (not sure if that was my error on the online form or his in dialing). Once corrected, we agreed on a call time of 11:00 AM. By 11:13 AM there was no call and no follow-up message. I cancelled the request due to lack of reliability. The Director replied: “Got it.” This was dismissive and unprofessional, and not what I expect from a care-oriented organization. Reliability and respect are foundational — especially when someone is seeking support for medical-related appointments. If reliability isn’t there at the first point of contact, it raises serious concerns about trusting this service for something as time-sensitive as medical transportation — for myself or a loved one. Our family contacted Home Instead to provide care for our elder parents. From the initial consultation with Caitlyn to the regular communication with Lauren we felt our parents were in good hands. Our caregiver Gabriella was amazing. She was extremely patient and professional at all times. Gabriella provided compassionate care to our parents providing assistance where needed in their home. Home Instead is highly recommended if you are looking for care for your loved ones. Thank you from the Edelson Family

Caitlyn Worsfold went above and beyond to find a great match! As the Director of Care, she had to step in to review the candidates, since the individual searching for the match, failed miserably. Caitlyn to the rescue. She listened! We can’t thank her enough for the time and energy she put into the search. She cares!!
