I had a procedure done (an amniotic membrane inserted onto my eye) and was told it would need to be on for 4 days (over a long weekend). I was also told if it gave me any discomfort to contact them. The next day it was extremely I comfortable and I couldn’t open or close my eye. I literally couldn’t sleep because my eye wouldn’t close. I called and asked to speak to the Dr. who placed the membrane on my eye and was left on hold for a ridiculous amount of time. Finally someone got on the phone and told me she was off until Monday. I explained the pain I was in and that something wasn’t right with the membrane. I was then told that I was going to experience discomfort and it was normal to “feel weird” and unless I “just can’t bear pain” that I needed to just try and get through it. I assumed at that point the correct info was given to me and I needed to just get through it. I had horrible discomfort and off and on pain for the next 3 days. I could barely sleep and my eye just couldn’t close. When I finally went in the following Monday to get the membrane taken out the Dr immediately said “oh no” and told me I had a bad reaction to the procedure. She struggled for several minutes trying to remove it and it was VERY painful. We it finally came out she told me I had “some redness” and the procedure just didn’t work as it was supposed to. The “some redness” comment was an understatement to say the least. I literally had a huge red circle around my eye where the membrane edge had been. It looked and felt terrible. Within an hour almost the entire white of my eye was bright red. I had pain in my eye for several more days and had to miss three days of work because of this. The entire experience was horrible and if someone had just listened to me the membrane could have (and obviously SHOULD have) been removed before all the pain, swelling, blood red eyes and missed work probably wouldn’t have happened. I was apologized to several times, was told the procedure failed and they should have removed it days ago when I called. But after all this I decided to just let it go. A mistake was made, as painful as it was for me but they apologized so I moved on.
Fast forward to me getting a huge bill for this failed procedure, unnecessary pain and suffering and missed work. I called the office and was told that since it was a botched procedure and for what I went through that I didn’t need to worry about being billed. At least they understood their responsibility and didn’t charge me. My eye is now healed for the most part and I moved on. Never heard from anyone again until I’m now getting a collection letter for a bill I never paid?? I never heard from anyone after they “accepted responsibility” so I assumed it was done. Why did they bill me behind the scenes anyway after they said not to worry about charges??? And why was it sent to collections without me ever getting notice of a bill in any way??
I have photos, documents and records of the entire thing. I would like to speak to someone about this and why I’m getting collections texts suddenly
