I recently visited Eye Deal Optical on December 19, 2023, for my annual eye exam with Dr. Joseph Fuchs. My overall experience was disappointing, and I'd like to share the details. The eye examination was conducted on outdated equipment—an antique-cased optometrist's set. This slowed down the process and led to challenges due to poor image clarity, despite bringing my previous year's prescription. After the exam, I was surprised when the owner, Bruce Presner, initially claimed I owed him $60. After questioning the amount, he eventually accepted the $10 copay, which is consistent with my insurance coverage. This raised concerns about the transparency of the billing process. After completing my payment, I requested copies of both my eyeglass and contact lens prescriptions, as per FTC rules. Initially, Mr. Presner denied both prescriptions and assured me he would text them to me. However, only my eyeglass prescription was sent initially. What added to my dismay was Mr. Presner's request for an additional $40 for a "fitting" when I was simply renewing my contact lens prescription from the previous year with no change in eyesight. This extra charge seemed unnecessary and raised questions about fair and transparent pricing practices. Only after expressing my concerns that he was in violation of the law, Mr. Presner eventually texted me my contact lens prescription. According to FTC rules, patients should receive a copy of their prescription immediately after the eye examination (Look up: FTC Eyeglass Rule and Contact Rule). Denying the contact lens prescription and requesting an additional fee for a renewal with no changes in eyesight is not only inconvenient but also raises ethical considerations. According to the FTC rules, an optometrist must provide one copy of the patient's prescription immediately after the eye examination is completed. This applies to both eyeglass and contact lens prescriptions. Denying a paper copy and requiring patients to request it later is a violation of these rules. I hope this feedback raises awareness about the importance of adherence to regulations for the benefit of all patrons. He most definitely doesn't have my future business and I won’t be recommending him to my neighbors.

I stopped in to this nice shop today to simply have then put a screw into the frame of my sunglasses, because the screw had fallen out and was lost. The woman there was so nice and friendly! She replaced the screw for an extremely low price and even gave me a small eyeglass repair kit that contained a tiny screwdriver and an additional screw. This kit was free of charge and I was very surprised and really happy about this. What a kind person to do this for me! It was so refreshing to have such a great customer experience and I will definitely be back in the future!
