I went to the lab for routine blood work and unfortunately had a very unpleasant experience with the phlebotomist. From the moment I walked in, she was rude and had a noticeable attitude. She questioned the lab orders, and although I clarified them, she continued responding in an unprofessional manner.
I also requested that the lab results be faxed, and she responded with frustration, stating there was no fax number, again with unnecessary attitude. After some time trying to sort things out, she finally proceeded with the blood draw.
During the draw, she left the tourniquet on my arm for the entire collection of eight tubes. As a registered nurse, I know that a tourniquet is typically released once blood flow is established. My arm began turning blue, and I eventually asked her to remove it. She then lost the vein and stated that she didn’t want to remove the tourniquet because it helps with blood flow, which led to me needing to be stuck a second time.
To make matters worse, during the appointment she began speaking negatively about another phlebotomist, Samina (who has always been wonderful in my experience). She commented that she doesn’t like when other people touch her blood draws. I found it very unprofessional to speak about another employee this way in front of a patient.
Overall, the interaction felt very unprofessional and uncomfortable, which is disappointing when you’re simply trying to get routine lab work done.

The minus 1 is for Quest's technology/appointment-making/check-in/process and the remaining 4 are all for the staff. They deal with undue burden at this site due to technological and unnecessary workload issues (manually entering order info took longer than actual blood draw). Quest has some technological issues with their check-in for patients who do not bring their insurance card to the appointment. The kiosk automatically changed my scheduled appointment to a walk-in without notification; so I had waited 40 minutes past my appointment to be seen. Sabina was attentive when I had brought this issue to the staff's attention. She understood my frustration; and dealt with the whole situation with such grace. She is also a fantastic phlebotomist.

I would like to give a shout of Thanks out to Samina, of Quest Diagnostics Lab in Smithtown for her kindness and professionalism has a phleobotomist technician. I had a confirmed appointment on 02/23/26 to get blood drawn, but due to the fact I knew we had a pending storm ( snow blizzard) coming, I showed up at their location early on 02/21/26 at 6:40am to see if I could have my blood drawn. I went to the patient kiosk to see if I could be seen has a walk-in. The machine already had a sign on it saying there were no walk- in's for the rest of the day. I attempted to sign in anyway, but got the same message.I was disappointed and took a step back to walk away and Samina was behind me. She looked at me and said, " Don't worry I will help you. "She then asked me if I ate anything and I told her I did not. Samina then said to follow her and further stated, " Today is the exception." I sat down in the chair, she took my doctor's prescription, then gently took my blood. She was so nice and kind. I didn't even feel the needle go into my arm. I had prior encounters where Samina has taken my blood and she always greets you with a smile while maintaining professional. Thank you so much Samina. I really appreciate you helping me. I don't know if I will get to my doctor's appointment, but at least I know my doctor will have my test results.

Came in 1/29 and had a pleasant experience picking up a kit for a sample to be brought back the following day. Was told not to make an appointment and to just knock to drop the sample off.
Came in this morning to drop off the sample and knocked quietly as instructed. Heard kids in the background being loud so sat back down patiently, understanding as a father that kids are a handful. Waiting another 10m before again knocking very quietly as I did not want to appear rude. After the kids exit the lobby I knock a 3rd time, again, quietly and patiently and sit back down. A few minutes goes by and Samina comes to the door with an attitude asking what I need. I tell her I was instructed to knock when I came in this morning with my sample. She immediately dismisses me, i apologize and say im sorry this is just what I was instructed to do yesterday. She asks by who, I tell her what I I know, she tells me doesn’t matter, sign in and then closes the door on my face. Even the other woman in the patient room scoffed at how I was treated.
I sign in and wait patiently again, and eventually get called in. I ask for the woman’s name who treated me so rudely in which I learn her name is Samina. Samina actually leaves her patient when she hears me asking for her name to try and walk back the way she acted towards me and hide behind policy.
It’s bad enough how impersonal quest makes healthcare but then you add rude employees and conflicting instructions. All I was doing was following the instructions i received doing my best to be as respectful and patient to the employees as possible and I was met with disdain and rudeness.
Employee #1 was kind and helpful and this should not reflect poorly on her.
