I had a very disappointing and concerning experience at Phelps Hospital.
While waiting in the ER, there was a technician stationed right outside our room who was on FaceTime with a friend, talking about her night out for an entirety of 3 hours. During this, a nurse asked her for help assisting a patient to the bathroom who they were nervous was having a stroke, (great guy it’s his anniversary today) and she ignored the request. We asked for her assistance just to show us how to lower the bed. I was casually was having a cyst on my ovary rupture and just wanted to watch Back to the Future. I did interrupt her important phone call and she was very frustrated. My bad. The lack of professionalism and teamwork was alarming. Another technician came by and she spoke about her night out for an hour and how the man just wanted a green card. (The girl in the gold juicy pants - I don’t think you should take him back- I do think he just wants the green card - you are a star and deserve better) . The one nurse was holding it down. I wish I got your name but you brought me a turkey sandwich. . ( the only picture I took was me asking chat gpt of what a tech does. And if they are allowed to FaceTime… chat gpt said no - people are in pain and if you hate your job go work somewhere else)
We waited approximately four hours without being seen, and were told there were delays due to shift changes and computer issues. While I understand that emergencies and system problems happen, the lack of communication and attentiveness made the situation much worse. The only person that was attentive was a gentleman with a beach themed shirt asking for insurance information. Great shirt .
What was most upsetting, however, was witnessing how another patient was treated. A woman nearby was clearly asking for help and appeared to be in distress, possibly struggling with substance use. She was asked to be “wanded,” but ultimately left without receiving the help she seemed to need. It was heartbreaking to watch. There was also an opportunity to close her door and give her privacy and dignity during that moment, which unfortunately was not done.
Overall, the experience felt disorganized, inattentive, and lacking compassion in moments where it mattered most. I hope this feedback is taken seriously and leads to improvements in both professionalism and patient care. I would drive two hours with a twisted ovarian cyst to never experience Phelps again.

Staff is excellent. Nurses, techs, nps in telemetry are professional, caring, efficient, responsive, smart, knowledgeable and just damn nice. I have a very complex health situation and the care I received at Phelps was thoughtful and smart.
The admission process was easy. The admissions staff was friendly and helpful. The unit in which I was being treated was efficient. The nurses were personable. The doctor explained everything in advance of the procedure and afterward showed me pictures of what he had done.
If you could avoid, avoid at all cost. In my six decades of living, I can’t recall meeting more disinterested doctors or staff… I mean we’re talking about people that at worst simply don’t care…and at best are going through the motions…. The true definition of a clipboard doctor and staff that just wants to go home I gave it two stars because parking was convenient
As a hospital it is what it is. All depends who sees or attends to your issue. With that being said, can't complain about the service received when a family member had a brain tumor from a metastasized lung cancer.
