Just arrived at hospital room and two young girls came in from the Phelps therapy center and they proceeded to get me moving but I was taken there because I COULD NOT WALK The pain was excruciating and I couldn’t make them understand. They left me the young man from Phelps therapy showed up and I told him I had a bad experience with his workers and he went out acting like a big baby instead of asking me what happened. He was very unprofessional. They don’t seem to have it together and I would never go to Phelps hospital therapy

I had a second scoliosis surgery down in the city in early May. My first surgery was in November and for rehab I unfortunately choose another large well known rehab center in White Plains that was a total nitemare. This surgery in early May I knew I had to give Phelps a try. There are no words to express just how amazing this rehab is though small in comparison to the first one I went to it was huge in compassion and excellence because of the staff that work there. I have to give a shout out to the fabulous people who in less than two weeks got me up and able to return home where with help from VNS of Westchester I'm continuing to heal. I need to mention Manny my tough, funny and competent PT who constantly told me to focus, Laura my OT with the heart of gold who helped me with learning to get on with everyday life and let me shower there often and Carrie the nurse who was on duty most often who was so kind but kept me inline when I tried to do things alone without ringing the call bell. I want to thank Dr. Melchioree for seeing me daily and helping me with other medical issues to make me more comfortable. What a prince of a Dr. he is. Additionally , a thank you to Kim the Nurse PA for her kindness and caring. I don't want to end this without thanking the other nurses, the aides and the food workers . I gained 6 lbs. In two weeks because of the really amazing food. Just a big thank you to all for who you all are and how you show such kindness during an awful time. I miss being there.

Three days after my six-hour laminectomy, I arrived at Phelps for intensive inpatient rehab. I didn’t know what to expect and was very impressed with the care and support I received there. The nurses were warm and caring, understanding that I was uncomfortable and wanting relief. And the occupational and physical therapy was superb. I worked specifically with George (physical) and Laura (occupational) but I also observed others on the team working with others. In a firm but gentle way, George and Laura encouraged me to do as much as I could in each session. I had four forty-five minute sessions each day during the week. Dr. Melchiorre and his capable team of doctors checked in at least once every day and spent the time to ask how I was doing and to help me make progress in my recovery while also staying safe and comfortable. And eleven days later, I was released to my own home where, with live-in support for an additional ten days, I now feel safe and in control. I still have a ways to go before I am fully back to my pre-surgery independence, but I believe that I will achieve that goal in a matter of weeks or months. Phelps is truly an exemplary program!

I completed a 21 day Drug and Alcohol program here in November and it was a great place. Staff was very helpful and kind, the program itself was very well put together, and the food was amazing for a hospital setting. I was very impressed, and left there feeling great. I would absolutely recommend this program to anyone who's looking to get their life back on track. They also provided free transportation there and back
