So thankful I found Dr. Lau! Surgery is never easy, not to mention in the middle of a pandemic and I had a hernia that made my body look different and feel different in a very vulnerable way. I didn’t know what to expect but from the first time we spoke he gave me the confidence needed to get through. He was professional, straightforward, and answered all of my questions. I immediately scheduled the surgery because to me it was time sensitive due to work and previous obligations. Of course the night before my surgery there was a tropical storm that forced a change in the location of my surgery, last minute, but sure enough the next morning Dr. Lau and his team were there to reassure me everything was going to be alright and there will be no delay in my operation. Being such short notice one of the nurses in the welcoming unit understandably couldn’t find the paperwork that was brought over in the night from the original hospital and when she thought I might look worried she asked me what operation I was in for and who my surgeon was, just to make small talk, and I told her Dr. Lau and she said I have nothing to worry about, he removed her gallbladder and she didn’t even have pain after. Well 6 hours later I was on my way home, walking on my own and everyday since I have felt substantially better with no need for pain meds which was important to me. Within two weeks I felt and looked as if I didn’t just have major surgery and after a follow up visit, as if Dr. Lau could read my mind, he said don’t let this operation hold you back from what you want to do and while I always listen to my body, I did feel strong but those words meant a lot because he has confidence in his skill and his technique and it’s a contagious attitude that someone feeling vulnerable after hernia repair needs to hear. I would recommend Dr. Lau of Hudson Valley Surgical to anyone who needs hernia repair or any operation.
