I never knew I needed this in my life until now. I first arrived several months ago for my first appointment at Stretch Lab on E 58th and 2nd Ave in Manhattan. The receptionist asked me if I had ever stretched before. Huh? In my life??!! It sounded like a silly question. I'm a grown up. Of course I have stretched in the gym, been involved in sports, and even stretch at home. My answer was "Of course I stretched before!". The plot twist occurred when he clarified his question. He asked me if I have ever done "assisted stretching" before. That's the day of my entire life changed forever. Of course I didn't know what that was so my answer was no and then they proceeded to show me. One time was all I needed to commit to this forever. Assisted stretching is a self discovery journey to uncover muscles and tendons and ligaments and joints that you never knew you even had. I used to wake up feeling rickety with back pains, joint pains, and just an overall blah feeling of aging disproportionately. And then I met my flexologist (that's what the professionals who help you to stretch are called) Angie. Angie is a phenomenon!! She is extremely knowledgeable and aware of all things involving physical therapy, anatomy, the body, mobility, flexibility, life, etc. She educates me every week on my movement and flexibility and I even showed her my X-ray of a rotator cuff injury and she noticed something that even my orthopedic doctor missed. Angie is amazing!! She knows her stuff really well and even says things like "motion is lotion" to get me to remember that moving my limbs in a certain way produces synovial fluid that bathes the joints. She's so smart!! I have learned so much about my body and how to care for it. My mobility has increased drastically (old softball injury) and my breathing and flexibility have improved to levels that even amazes me!! I'm still in the early stages of assisted stretching, but working with Angie for the past four months, I would say that my improvement is at 90%. I wake up now without all the pains in my body, I can run, I breathe better and I feel whole. I've started kickboxing and practicing Qigong and none of that was possible before for me. Realistically, every now and then I may get a little back pain, but it's easily resolved with the home exercises Angie gives me. Assisted stretching is not something that you do once and never do again. You have to keep it up to keep your body flexible. It's totally worth the time, money and effort. I go twice a week for 50 minutes each and it makes me feel so energetic and alive. Angie has saved my life. She helps me so much. She's patient, calming and knows her stuff. She exerts the right amount of pressure when stretching me to get effective results. She knows exactly what she's doing--a seasoned professional, she's even studying for her doctorate!! I could go on and on forever about Angie and she would totally deserve it. She helped me to move and breathe again and get my life back. And she's such a sweet person. I am forever grateful 🙏 Thank you Angie for all you do and the Stretch Lab for all the wonderful people that work there!! Everyone there is great!!

StretchLab might be the single worst business ever foisted on the affluent and gullible: it charges $79–$149 for a stranger in a branded tank top to tug your arms and legs on a padded table (something your drunk friend would do for free), then insists this “proprietary” stretching is essential to your survival despite zero credible evidence beyond generic mobility platitudes. The real genius is locking customers into auto-renewing memberships with cancellation policies straight from Satan’s legal team, turning an impulse session into a $300-a-month hostage situation. Franchise quality swings from decent to laughable, meaning you’re often paying boutique prices for a 22-year-old who watched forty hours of online videos and now calls themselves a “Flexologist.” The upsell gauntlet is merciless (packages, recovery gadgets, aggressive tipping prompts) turning supposed relaxation into a timeshare pitch in Lululemon fabric. In a world full of actual physical therapists, trainers, and yoga teachers who deliver real mobility work for half the cost, StretchLab survives purely because rich people will pay anything that looks vaguely clinical and comes with a cute uniform. It’s the SoulCycle of passive stretching: overpriced, mildly cultish, and one recession away from bankruptcy.
