Marvin Johnson

My name is Marvin Johnson. I'm suing Jacques H. Hacquebord, MD and the NYU Langone Health System.
I had surgery done on my finger. It was dislocated. My issues with the doctor stem from my post-op treatment.
1.) During a post-op visit a woman was present with the doctor, who I didn't know. She was never introduced to me by the doctor. No explanation was given why she was there. When I later inquired who she was, he didn't answer me. He NEVER told me who she was. This is a violation of my privacy.
2.) When I asked for a follow-up visit due to concerns about my finger not healing right, the doctor refused. Without ever seeing my finger, he determined I just needed to continue with Occupational Therapy. He didn't offer to see me again, until I threatened to sue. I later found out that my finger was re-dislocated.
3.) When I saw the jagged scarring, I questioned the doctor, as to whether he actually did the surgery or someone else did. Again, he never answered me. I don't know to this day, who actually performed the surgery on my finger.
4.) Without having seen my finger, the doctor continued to insist it was fine. He even informed me that he would gladly have a colleague look at it and confirm that my finger was fine. I told him, he would never see my finger again.
I ended up having my Primary Care Physician, who is also with NYU Langone, refer me to a Plastic Surgeon. The Plastic Surgeon, in question, is also with NYU Langone, and performed a second surgery on my finger. He removed the hardware from the first surgery, realigned my finger, inserted 2 rods to keep the finger in place, and restitched the finger, in a way that "cleaned up" the original jagged scarring. A few weeks later, I had the 2 rods removed. My finger looks and feels fine now.
What's crazy is, I've been a patient of NYU Langone for over 10 years now. I love my Primary Care Physician and have received excellent treatment and care from EVERY other doctor I've seen with NYU Langone, except for Dr. Jacques H. Hacquebord.
Dr. Hacquebord is a white South African, an Afrikaner. I am black American. I don't know if this is a cultural or racial issue, but I felt this doctor did not feel he or his Nurse Practitioner had to answer any of my questions.
The other NYU Langone doctors suggested that maybe I just encountered a doctor with a bad bedside manner. I don't know.
Dr. Hacquebord always seemed to be very forthcoming with his other, non-black clients.
To be continued.
