2 years of slight bleeding episodes to heavy bleeding led to me fumbling with no help from doctors. I finally found out I had Radiation Proctitus. There was no discusdion of this being a possibility that I can look back and remember. And unfortunately the doctor who I had left for another job and never looked back. Im in a chonic condition now and when I went in with early stage prostate cancer. I never had a PSA higher than 4. But I was advised cybeknife would be a good decision to ease any posdibilty of later worrying. I was 72 years old then Anyone considering taking thi? I would be careful and be awate of the true possibities of harmful after affects. I'm just finally letting out some steam and disappointed that I have. I hope you will be aware of this.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to Dr. Nima M. Aghdam and his incredible team at the Perlmutter Cancer Center for the exceptional care I received during my prostate cancer treatment.
Dr. Aghdam is truly a rare kind of physician—someone who combines world-class expertise with remarkable kindness and humanity. From day one, he took the time to treat me not just as a patient, but as a person. He listened with patience, explained every option clearly, and never rushed through appointments. He also showed a heartfelt concern for my entire family, offering reassurance and support every step of the way.
Facing prostate cancer is overwhelming, but Dr. Aghdam’s compassionate approach and steady confidence gave me a sense of peace and trust that made all the difference.
Equally impressive was his staff—professional, responsive, and always warm. From the front desk to the nurses and coordinators, everyone made me feel welcome, respected, and genuinely cared for.
The Perlmutter Cancer Center is fortunate to have a physician like Dr. Aghdam at the helm. He is not only an exceptional oncologist but also a deeply kind and caring person. I feel incredibly lucky to have been in his care, and I cannot recommend him and his team highly enough.
Frequently Asked Questions About NYCyberKnife at Perlmutter Cancer Center—Manhattan
What is CyberKnife?
CyberKnife is an advanced, noninvasive form of stereotactic radiosurgery that uses a robotic arm and real-time imaging to deliver highly focused, high-dose radiation to tumors anywhere in the body while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissue. (Source: NYU Langone patient education).
What types of conditions does NYCyberKnife at Perlmutter Cancer Center treat?
NYCyberKnife treats a variety of cancers including prostate, breast, lung, brain and spinal tumors, hepatobiliary malignancies, certain gynecologic cancers, and other soft tissue tumors — offering stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) and radiosurgery options when appropriate. (Source: NYU Langone CyberKnife Center and Radiation Therapy pages).
How many treatment sessions are typical and how long is each session?
Most CyberKnife courses are delivered in five sessions or fewer; individual treatment sessions commonly last about 20–30 minutes. Some protocols (in select patients) may use a single fraction. (Source: NYU Langone CyberKnife Center and NYU Langone news about S7 model).
Is CyberKnife invasive or painful?
No — CyberKnife treatment is noninvasive (no incisions) and patients do not usually require anesthesia. Treatments are typically pain-free and most people can resume normal activities after each session. (Source: NYU Langone CyberKnife Center).
Will I need implants/markers or a rectal spacer for prostate CyberKnife treatment?
For prostate SBRT/CyberKnife, physicians may place small fiducial markers to track the prostate during treatment, and may use a rectal spacer (SpaceOAR) to reduce radiation exposure to the rectum, depending on the patient and treatment plan. (Source: NYU Langone Radiation Therapy for Prostate Cancer).
What should I expect during a CyberKnife treatment course?
Before treatment you will have imaging scans (CT/MRI/PET) for planning; a custom mask or body mold may be made to minimize movement. During each session the robotic arm moves around you while image-guided X-rays verify positioning so highly precise beams target the tumor; side effects are typically minimal.
