  My experience at CycleBar was disappointing, not only because of a technical issue, but because of how I was treated by one particular staff member, Lauren. I booked my class through ClassPass, and upon arrival it became clear that my reservation had not migrated correctly into CycleBar’s system. Other members of the CycleBar team handled the situation with desire to help. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the instructor, Lauren. During this process, Lauren was audibly mumbling under her breath and made a dismissive comment to a coworker that they should “let her just wait,” despite the fact that the issue was actively being addressed. I should add that she did not even bother to look at my face or acknowledge me being right there in front of her. Her tone and demeanor toward me were noticeably rude and passive-aggressive. Moments later, she warmly greeted and hugged another patron (who was not a person of color) which stood in contrast to how she treated me. While I cannot be sure of the intent, this left me feeling singled out and disrespected, and it raised concerns for me about potential racial bias. I appreciate everyone else’s help in trying to resolve the issue, but Lauren’s lack of basic empathy is not it. Weird that in this day and age people still seem to have flavors of racial bias.

  Instructor Alex was incredible! Today was my first day and everyone is the studio was so welcoming, they helped me get set up, explained the screens, and adjusted my bike to fit. I had such a fun time!
