My son had attended camp at the center 2 summers ago and then during a break early 2024. During camp there were multiple issues with campers in which my son was asked to leave and we did not return for camp or to the facility. A year and a half has passed by. My son, who is a 10 year old child, was invited by a member, her son and another child, to go as a guest recently on 2 occasions. Then on 7/28/25 he was invited as a guest to watch a basketball game for a friend that was playing, driven there by his adult parent.
On the evening of 7/28/25 my son came home visibly upset and told me he was humiliated by leadership at the site and told he was banned from the facility until 2026. He also told me that he was asked to leave during his friend’s game but had to let them know he was invited as a guest and would have no ride. Neither during his visit as a guest to the facility nor as a guest to the game was the parent, myself, called or notified of any issues here.
I called the facility on 7/28/25 asking to speak with the director on site and was told he would be in touch with me the next morning. He called me and I asked him to explain what exactly happened and he explained he was in charge for about 9-10 months, having no knowledge of my son, and he "heard" from 2 employees my son had issues at camp, which he had not witnessed and had in fact told me on the phone he had good behavior when he interacted with him recently visiting. He then proceeded to accuse my son of “sneaking in the facility” 3 times – how is he sneaking in when he was driven by an adult and entered as a guest with a member? I asked if the friend that also came to the facility was treated this way, or asked to have a waiver signed as well, or if my son was being targeted. He proceeded to tell me he directly spoke with my 10 year old son about his sneaking in and was aware of “past camp issues” and at no point did he think it was appropriate to contact an ADULT parent? I also asked was it not ok for my son to go to a basketball game with a MEMBER as a spectator? He pulled my son out of the game and humiliated him in front of other employees and his friend and admitted he told my son he was BANNED from the facility until 2026 and he certainly had the option to ban him for life, which he directly verbalized to me himself.
He was very as a matter of fact during the conversation and continued to bring up the fact he is a parent of 2 children in which I explained – kids do not change? If there were alleged issues 1.5-2 years ago kids at 8-10 years old do not change? He accused my son of sneaking in, banned him all off of hearsay – he “thought” he was previously banned which is 100% untrue. He continued to refer to reports he had from camp 1.5-2 years ago but never thought to see his age or call his parent – the only one listed on paperwork? He also made a point to say my son was not truthful about his age when he said he was 11 – his birthday is in 9 days…. Is this really of concern?
To think this is a COMMUNITY, family facility to develop health, wellness and family? This is absolutely unacceptable and unprofessional. I demanded to speak with the next level leader – called and left a voicemail at 1020am with no call back, called again at 1250pm and explained to the colleague on the line I had a very urgent matter and needed to speak with him. She said at first he leaves at 2pm then it was he is in meetings – I said I needed to speak with him that day and I have had zero communication.
This is flat out unacceptable behavior to BAN a small 10 year old child without even consulting a parent.
