We ordered a new wheelchair for our son in August 2024. At the same time he was fitted for a new lap tray. We never received his lap tray. My insurance approved the tray. To make a very long story short, apparently the custom lap tray was never delivered after many phone call, emails and texts, I was informed it was lost.
May of 2025, finally my son had to have a new template made. Lap tray was again ordered. Received a call from someone in the Bronx NSM, it’s in! Delivery on a Monday between 8-4pm. Kept my son home. NO SHOW, NO CALL, NOTHING! Apparently it’s still in the Bronx. We were informed we could not pick it up, someone from the LI NSM has to pick it up and bring it to the LI shop! REALLY.
Now what? It’s December 2025!

Rehabco/now NSM has had the worst customer service going on 15 years now. Are they knowledgeable about wheelchair equipment? Yes. Are they easy to deal with? NO. Sadly this is the only place we can locally get equipment from, good luck getting the equipment. If you need it adjusted, you're really out of luck. I have called and complained about the process of getting my daughter's wheelchair for months now. Despite employees saying they're contacting the rep, the owner, sending urgent emails to employees...still nothing. Sadly we have to put up with this horrific company to try and get our children the equipment they need to live day to day!!

They have had our daughter's wheelchair for repair for the last YEAR. Today they were supposed to deliver said chair finally. The chair was to be delivered between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm and they are a no show. They canceled the delivery and didn't even have the decency to let me know. Now they are telling me that the next delivery date is July 10th, but given the history they are likely stringing me along.

Company sucks. Got stuck with wheelchair that has VERY SMALL front wheels on it and CANNOT BE CHANGED for bigger wheels. It's extremely difficult to push over cracks on sidewalks (which we have everywhere being we live in the bronx). Medicaid won't pay for anything else for 5yrs! Representatives should be more aware of the needs. Now I have to pay for something else to transport my daughter in out of pocket! I been saving for a year now...thanks rehabco. My advice, find another vendor.

Why must I see a doctor to get a wheelchair from NSM?
Our clients have mobility challenges and are referred to us by therapists and physicians to receive mobility solutions that meets all their unique needs. If you need a wheelchair, your best plan is to talk with your physician or therapist and get a thorough evaluation from a qualified Rehab Technology Supplier (RTS).
What if my medical condition changes?
Contact your local NSM branch and notify us of any changes that may affect the proper fit and function of your chair.
Are there any dangers in using an off-the-shelf wheelchair?
Definitely. A standard or not customized chair can cause more harm than good. People come in all shapes and sizes; their chairs must be designed to fit them. In severe situations, a standard or not customized chair may:
- Cause significant physiological and psychological problems
- Lead to an increase in dependence because it’s not used due to lack of comfort
- Cause pressure sores, or decubitus, due to improper cushioning
- Become obsolete quickly if not configured to “grow with the child”
- Become a major expense to replace or reconfigure, because most funding sources will only reimburse for a new chair every five years.
Do I have a choice of which mobility solutions company to use?
