Do NOT go to Dr. Barker for a root canal. Please go to a professional endodontist!
I went to Dr. Barker’s office for a deep cleaning, a cavity fill, and a root canal. I’ll start by saying I’m already a nervous dental patient as the dentist has always been nerve wracking for me, and this experience made it ten times worse.
From the first visit, her bedside manner was rude and dismissive, but I tried to give her a chance and kept my appointments. During my root canal, she worked completely alone with no assistant. She didn’t put a protective bib on me during the x-ray, barely spoke to me, and grew visibly frustrated as she worked. She even commented that my tooth was “hard to reach” and implied I was biting her tools when my jaw was simply tired from being open for over two hours between the back to back cleaning and the root canal. Mind you, I requested we do them on separate visits, but her office insisted on doing them on the same day.
Then came the worst part. She was about to start filling the roots and began spraying antiseptic, a medical grade bleach solution, into my mouth without a rubber dam or suction, and it went straight down my throat. I immediately started choking and couldn’t breathe. I had to jump out of the chair, gasping for air and throwing up outside the office. It was terrifying.
After that, we agreed to stop and finish at a later date, but I never went back. I went to a reputable endodontist who took new x-rays and a 3D scan and found that Dr. Barker had broken her instrument inside my root and never told me!!! She was about to fill the tooth and seal it with the tool inside. Luckily, the new endodontist I went to was able to get past the tool to clean the root and finish removing the decay. The tool can not be removed and could have resulted in a much bigger issue such as having to remove the entire tooth.
This entire experience was beyond unprofessional, unsafe, and traumatic. Dr. Barker should not be performing root canals.
Please, if you need a root canal, learn from my mistake and go to a trusted, experienced, professional endodontist.
