First, I want to say that this review is not meant to shame this facility. I have been helped here before. I am sharing my most recent experience because I am unsure how to move forward.
I am very disappointed with the service I received this week. As of today, I am still in excruciating pain despite the prescription, largely due to the doctor who treated me. I understand that doctors may approach things differently, but I know my body, and this facility has records showing how I was previously treated for the same issue.
I visited this facility three times this week. The first time, I came in but had to leave because the procedure was outside my budget. I returned the following day with payment and was asked to sign an additional waiver, separate from the initial consent forms, specifically for the doctor performing my procedure. That should have been a red flag, but I was in so much pain and did not want to keep returning. I trusted what the doctor was telling me, even though it felt like the information I provided was not being considered. The procedure was only partially done, which meant I had to return.
To make a long story longer, I called before returning to confirm any possible fees I might be charged. I came back because I was in even more pain from the partial trauma of the procedure and because the issue was not resolving. For context, I had this addressed on Wednesday and asked for a work note. It was suggested that I could return to work as soon as that Friday, which made no sense given the pain I am still in and the fact that the procedure was only partially done. Fortunately, the receptionist explained that if I returned within 48 hours of the initial visit, the follow-up would be at no cost because it would still be covered under the first visit. After that, they charge half of what you paid and treat it as a discounted, new visit.
I also asked how patients are assigned doctors, and I was told that different doctors work on different days.
I am still in excruciating pain, but I was seen fairly quickly. The doctor looked at my issue and said that because it was visibly resolving, there was nothing further they could do. I had no choice but to accept this, since I was in a great deal of pain and did not want to relive what I experienced during my last visit. I accepted what the doctor could provide, which was some medical materials, and I appreciate that. Still, it is concerning and disheartening to return in this much pain, needing relief from the pressure of my injury, and have everyone act as if addressing it is the most dangerous thing in the world. At this point, I would have been better off going to the ER, and I may still need to go if this does not resolve soon.
My notes: I understand that medical professionals are professionals for a reason. They have learned and earned their expertise. However, I have been here for the same issue before and received treatment that resolved it (it was aggressive, but it worked for the time being). Why was that not presented as an option this time? Why did the doctor seem so combative when I explained what I needed versus what they could provide? In my mind, if I paid for a procedure and want it done the same way it was done the last time I was here, and the doctor is not willing to provide that service, I should be told so I can request another doctor or be refunded and go elsewhere.
I know I am probably biased because I am writing this while in pain. This issue does not feel urgent enough to justify the ER until it becomes urgent, and I do not have medical insurance, so I would have to pay out of pocket. I do not like feeling like I am not being helped, or being told to be patient and wait for the medicine to work, when I am in so much pain. Please take this into account and let me know whether you think my situation was handled well.
