I always have a good experience to work with the patient in this agency.

Not happy with the service or the home care aides that have been sent so far. An aide never showed up for her shift. I called the agency twice in an hour and 45 minutes only to get voicemails and no call back. I then called my mltc which I got a person to speak with right away. I explained the situation and they said they would try and contact Homewatch. At that point Homewatch finally called me back. They said they would contact the aide to find out why she didn’t show and look for a replacement. They called me back and said a replacement would be coming within the hour. The replacement came 2 1/2 hours later, spoke very little English. We had to use a translation app on the phone which was not much help and the aide left 2 hours before he was supposed to. Since it was on a weekend, I’m giving Homewatch one more try and hoping for a better experience.

Some of the aides are wonderful, while others spend the entirety of their shift on the phone and/or sleeping.

Good companions, but overly attached to mobile phones during scheduled hours. Shows up late for shift. The aides do not do all the needed services that are accessed for the client's needs. Also they provide non-English speaking aides that can't follow simple directions. Office not available after hours.

Caring for one’s parents at home, through an agency, takes an inordinate amount of work. You need to establish a good working relationship with your coordinator and you need to be 100% involved in training your aides to make sure that they know how to care for your loved one/s.
This agency has good policies in place but they’re hit or miss, in practice. They don’t insure that an aide can read the careplan their nursing staff takes the time to create. Nor do the insure that an aide speaks the same language as the client. This is a safety issue! When it goes wrong - it goes VERY WRONG. Can it go right? It can, but it won’t happen without a great deal of work. I highly recommend installing cameras so you know if your loved ones are being attended to. The agency and the aides should know in advance. You’ll still be surprised by what you see, but it’s also important to support your concern with evidence.
Be diligent. Be firm. Your loved one’s safety depends on this. No one from this agency has stolen anything. A few aides ate quite a bit of my parents’. Many night aides have slept through the night.
Figure out what is acceptable to you for the level of care you need.
This group could definitely improve by one star - but no agency will be perfect.
