This practice was actually the office that my husband went to 40 years ago. Since dartmouth hitchcock took over, it has been an absolute nightmare. All personal care is gone. It’s corporate medicine. Dartmouth Hitchcock tries to turn over patients like a restaurant would turn tables. More patients = more money. Even the decor is corporate. Once colorful walls with child artwork and toys is now nothing but grey walls and fluorescent lights. This place is a perfect example of whats wrong with the US heath system. When our wonderful doctor retires, we will be out of there.

Been happily taking my child here for over a year and am pleased with the facility, workers, and doctors. Dr. Van Tuil is awesome! Their off-hours on-call doctors have been great too with responding to after hours calls when baby is sick on the weekends or at night. Easy to make appointments / reschedule if needed. Planning to take my second child here once they are born! The office was recently acquired by Dartmouth and I am hoping that nothing big changes, as this pediatrician office has been great the past year! Definitely recommend.

Front desk staff has been extremely rude, acting irritable both on the phone and in person. You’d think they would at least try to be welcoming to a new patient. As far as the doctors, unless you are willing to let someone care for your family who is single minded, makes you feel like you are a bad mother, gives outdated (and non medical) advice, and treats you as if you aren’t smart enough to be a mother because of your choices and questions… maybe pass on this practice. I can’t properly describe the level of discomfort in the room as I had to laugh off the pretentious attitude of the provider to make it through the appointment. We have traveled across the country (husband is a contact nurse) and have seen many pediatricians. I must say, I’m not particularly fond of being belittled by someone who has never met my child or I before. It’s not a good look.

A Nurse’s Perspective This practice came highly recommended to me as I was preparing to deliver my son. I am an RN, and therefore familiar with basic standards of care. At our very first encounter, my son’s intake, the MA greeted us wearing a broken stethoscope. The MAs who were collecting his weight seemed confused by their equipment. A week later my son contracted RSV, diagnosed by Elliott Pediatric ED. We were seen at River Road the following day for a follow up. The MA used a forehead thermometer (notoriously inaccurate) to check my 12 day old’s temperature. With this being a respiratory Illness, they attempted to measure an oxygen saturation. They used a pediatric finger tip pulse ox with obviously no luck because he’s so tiny. The MA then attempted to use their infant pulse ox. She didn’t know how to apply it, wait for a strong pleth, or interpret the results. Had I not had a nursing education I would have been terrified by the result she got. The provider and I correctly obtained his oxygen levels. They requested another follow up the following day. Another MA did the EXACT same thing except this result was even worse. She then used a tympanic thermometer on my 15 day old (not recommended until 6 months). The provider came in, who apparently co-owns the practice, and the doctor also didn’t know how to use their equipment. This office is lacking education and implementation of evidence based practice. They were made aware of these concerns and I was told this provider (the co-owner) would want to discuss them. I informed her that we were leaving the practice and her only response was “good luck.” I hope other parents stay diligent and question everything. The outcome of these visits could have been very different.

Today my husband and I were completely amazed by the dedication of the extremely short handed staff. We were truthfully told how long we may have to wait in the car.. which helped us go prepared to keep an 8 month old busy. It was amazing watching the doc literally run from car to car, and it was even more amazing that he didn't make us feel rushed at all. We were very much listened to and cared about! I just hope these Healthcare workers take time to eat and take care of themselves during their shifts! Thank you all!!
