I have to admit ...even though Dr. Dan is one of a kind! The staff at the Lighthouse are some of the kindest and most helpful individuals..the dental hygienist was the best as for gentleness and thoughtfulness..The office staff...well they were considerate and most helpful as well. The new dentist was also a remnant of Dr. Dan...very personable and explained in detail what the concerns were for a better outcome! AMAZING! !

Frequently Asked Questions About Lighthouse Dental
I'm not happy with the appearance of my teeth. What options are available for changing them?
At Lighthouse Dental in Wilmington, NC, we provide a variety of cosmetic dentistry options to enhance your smile. These include veneers, porcelain crowns, tooth-colored composite bonding, and orthodontic treatments like Invisalign. We approach all our dental work with aesthetics in mind, understanding the importance of both healthy and attractive teeth. To explore which services might best suit your needs, we encourage you to schedule a consultation with us.
Do I have to avoid certain foods with a dental crown?
While dental crowns are designed to be durable and function similarly to natural teeth, it's advisable to use caution with certain foods. We recommend avoiding biting directly on hard items like candy or nuts to prevent potential damage to the crown or underlying tooth structure. If you have any specific concerns about dietary restrictions with your dental crown, please don't hesitate to contact our Wilmington, NC dental office for guidance.
Do dental implants require any special care?
Dental implants are designed to seamlessly integrate with your natural teeth, making them a popular choice for tooth replacement. In fact, over 3 million implants are placed annually in the United States. One of the benefits of implants is that they can be cared for much like your natural teeth. Regular brushing and flossing are essential to maintain the health of your gums and surrounding teeth. While implants themselves don't decay, maintaining good oral hygiene is crucial for overall dental health. For more information about dental implants in Wilmington, NC, please contact our office.
Am I having a dental emergency?
Dental pain is often indicative of an emergency situation. We advise contacting our Wilmington, NC dental office immediately for an examination if you're experiencing pain. Other signs that may indicate a dental emergency include: a pimple-like lesion on your gum, a broken or cracked tooth, an object lodged between teeth, gum swelling, or a lost or broken dental restoration such as a filling or crown. Prompt attention to these issues can prevent further complications.
What happens during an examination?
Dental examinations are crucial for maintaining oral health. During these appointments, we assess your overall dental condition and identify potential issues early on. Early detection allows for simpler, more comfortable, and often less costly treatments. Regular examinations help us prevent minor issues from developing into more serious problems that could lead to pain and require more extensive interventions. To schedule an examination with our sedation dentists in Wilmington, NC, please contact our office.
What can I do to prevent gum disease?
Preventing gum disease involves both professional care and good home habits. Regular cleanings with our dental hygienists in Wilmington, NC are essential. At home, brush twice daily and floss every evening. Our team can demonstrate proper brushing and flossing techniques. Additional preventive measures include avoiding tobacco use, maintaining a diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, using an antiseptic mouthwash (we can recommend one), and informing us of any health conditions that may affect your dental health, such as diabetes, heart disease, or cancer.
I brush and floss every day. Why do I need a cleaning?
Even with diligent home care, it's common to miss small areas while brushing and flossing. Over time, plaque in these areas can harden into tartar, which requires professional removal. When tartar accumulates below the gum line, it can lead to gum inflammation and the early stages of periodontal disease. Professional cleanings at our Wilmington, NC dental office help prevent these issues and maintain optimal oral health.
Why is a root canal necessary?
A root canal becomes necessary when the interior of a tooth becomes infected. This infection can cause significant pain and potentially damage the nerve. If left untreated, the infection may spread to other teeth. Root canal therapy effectively removes the infection, alleviates pain, and preserves the affected tooth. If you're experiencing dental pain, we recommend scheduling an appointment with our Wilmington, NC dental team for an evaluation.
Is sedation dentistry safe for everyone?
Sedation dentistry is generally safe for most adults without serious health conditions. Prior to any sedation procedure, we conduct a thorough review of your medical history to determine if it's an appropriate option for you. During sedation, we closely monitor your vital signs to ensure your safety and comfort throughout the procedure. To discuss whether sedation dentistry is suitable for you, we invite you to schedule a consultation with our Wilmington, NC dental team.
Will my dental extraction hurt?
At Lighthouse Dental, we prioritize gentle, comfortable dentistry, including dental extractions. We'll discuss your dental history beforehand, particularly any issues with anesthesia, to ensure your comfort during the procedure. Post-extraction discomfort and swelling are normal and can typically be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers. We'll provide detailed aftercare instructions and schedule a follow-up to monitor your healing. For patients requiring tooth replacement options, we offer various solutions. Contact our Wilmington, NC office to schedule an appointment and discuss your specific needs.
