On December 4th, my eye doctor referred me to Cape Fear Cataract & Cornea for Cataract surgery. After not hearing anything from this office, I followed up with my eye doctor to determine the status of my referral. My eye doctors office reached out to CFC&C. My eye doctor's office was informed that CFC&C had "attempted to reach me and had left me two VM messages". No, I had 0 missed calls and no VM message from their office. They lied. Next, I reached out myself to CFC&C and scheduled an appointment for Feb 9th. I received a call last week, Friday, January 30th, and a VM was left informing me they needed to reschedule my appointment. I called them on this same Friday, leaving them a VM to get my appointment rescheduled. Nothing, no call-back. I called them again on Tuesday, left a VM, and nothing. I called again today (i.e., Wednesday) and was told they could see me on February 27th. When asked why they had to reschedule, I was told it was because their office has a meeting on this day. Are you kidding me? I am being treated like a 2nd class citizen. Yet, I, as a patient, am the one making this office's mortgage and car payments, putting food on their table. This is unacceptable. I will find another surgeon to perform my surgery.

Dr. Groat was exceptional in spending the time to explain all possible procedures that would work for me. The staff is helpful and friendly. Especially Nicole. who put me at ease and was very thorough in all the tests you are put through. I had no doubt my outcome would be very successful. I highly recommend Dr. Groat and Cape Fear Cataract and Cornea.

I cannot imagine a better experience than I've had with Dr. Groat and his people at Cape Fear Cataract & Cornea. Both of my eyes required a cornea transplant and cataract removal, which were accomplished with minimal recovery times. I now can see clearly with no corrective lenses, except for reading - which should be expected for someone my age!

I found out at the end of September 2018, just two weeks after Hurricane Florence that I was going blind from a hereditary disease, Fuchs Dystrophy, and there were only two doctors in Wilmington that were qualified to help me. My wife and I were told I would be completely blind in my right eye by Christmas without surgery. My eye doctor wanted me to see Dr. Groat and fortunately he had not evacuated for the hurricane. I was able to get in to see him in less than a week. He was very honest with me, but he offered hope, he told me a surgery, DMEK, where he would place a donated cornea in my eye should correct the issue and improve my vision. He said I would probably still need glasses after surgery but I would not lose my vision. He and his staff worked to get my surgery scheduled before the end of December so that I would not lose my vision. I had my surgery on 11/30/2018 and currently my vision in my right eye is 20/25! Dr. Groat is an awesome surgeon, his office staff are wonderful and we are grateful for his expertise! Without it my life would be very different today.
