While specific definitions can vary by state, ID is generally characterized by significant limitations in intellectual functioning (mental capacity, learning, etc.) and adaptive behaviors (conceptual, practical, and social skills typically learned from an early age).
What is a developmental disability (DD)?
Specific definitions may vary by state and may also encompass ID, though developmental disabilities also include physical disabilities present at birth or developed in childhood.nd social skills typically learned from an early age).
What support is available for individuals with I/DD?
Ranging from Medicaid waivers to address the financial components of professional I/DD services and supports to community support groups and disorder-specific organizations, there are many resources available. Connecting with a variety of them is hugely beneficial to both individuals and families to “connect the dots” between financial needs, education, and the sharing of ideas within our community!
What is the difference between residential supports and community living supports?
Residential supports are services that assist individuals living in group homes and alternative family living (AFL) settings. Community living supports assist those living in their own homes or the homes of their family members. Both types work to promote personal growth and community engagement for the individual.
What are private pay services?
While most of our services are available through Medicaid waivers, many individuals and their families seek day support and/or respite services independently. This can be on a regular basis or just as needed.
What are CARF and ARF accreditation?
Becoming CARF- and ARF- accredited means adopting a high set of standards for the care we provide and then opening our doors for external review. A CARF or ARF accreditation is a badge of honor, and all of CBC’s I/DD service agencies have earned theirs!
