I saw Lisa for my first appointment about a week postpartum - she was filling in at the Ballantyne facility from the Matthews location. My son had trouble fully emptying the breast during feeds, so I was encouraged to triple feed or pump every 2-3 hours. I had been using a 17mm flange to pump, but I was measured during the appt and told to use a 21mm flange. I followed this plan, nourished my body with good foods and lots of water, but I started to have low supply issues. I saw lactation consultants at other Novant facilities who were encouraging but never reassessed flange fit, mainly just did the weighed feeds and checked latch and positioning. Eventually, I saw a private practice lactation consultant (who was amazing), and she measured my flange size to be a 14mm. This immediately brought more comfort while pumping and a slight boost in supply. I know your flange size can change over time but, knowing what I know now about flange fit, I don't believe my anatomy has ever been a 21mm. I have scarring on my areolas from the flange being too big for so long. This is the first negative review I've ever left. Its possible having enough supply was never in the cards for me (which is fine by the way - fed is best), but I feel that the flange size being so off was a disservice when the crux of my breastfeeding plan was needing to pump to fully empty/establish supply. Pic of the 14mm vs 21 mm for reference.

Dayna Slomba is a rockstar! I was referred to her due to my daughter struggling to latch and feed effectively as a result of tongue ties, which was ultimately slowing down her growth. From the initial appointment, Dayna was so welcoming, caring, and knowledgeable. We have been working with her for multiple sessions and have gotten creative to try to get my little one on the right path with feeding. She is coaching through different breastfeeding techniques, pumping, and opportunities for bottle feeding. I feel so confident that Dayna is one of the best in the business and couldn’t ask for better support. Admittedly I was nervous about seeking lactation support as a first time mom. Breastfeeding can be such a sensitive and vulnerable journey, but Dayna listened with open ears and coached with such care. If you feel hesitant, know that you’ll be in great hands with Dayna.

I had the most wonderful experience with Dayna! My newborn and I could not figure out our latch to the point where I almost gave up breastfeeding altogether. We went to see Dayna and I was scared because of how raw my breast were and nervous because I did not have to have a lactation consultation with my first child. As soon as we arrived we did our consultation and got into the latch. First of all she makes you feel welcome, confident and is a true professional. She helped my newborn and I correct our positioning and showed me how to latch my little one properly. My baby fed for almost an hour, no pain on either side. She also showed me the correct flanges for my nipple size, which made pumping a breeze. She has so many recommendations on great pumps. It was amazing. At our second appointment which was about a week later, my breasts were healed. Dayna gave me even more pointers and techniques. I am so grateful to have worked with her, she is so full of knowledge and really is just so inviting. Thank you Dayna!

Dayna is the best in Charlotte. You won’t find anyone more knowledgeable about tongue ties. And she is very supportive and kind. Yolanda at the front desk is wonderful as well. I wouldn’t go anywhere else!
