Had an appointment today for the first time with Samantha Branton. Completely different experience than my initial visit with Dr. Grear. Samantha walked in, said who she was and sat right down in front of the computer and briefly discussed that I was there as a follow-up for my migraines. There was no introduction or welcoming feeling at the beginning of the appointment. I felt like it was just a memorization of my chart and was going to be treated as a cut and dry, a in and out appointment. I was in the room for a total of 10-15 mins and had I not interrupted her to discuss the new symptoms I was experiencing, I don’t think I would have had the chance.
At the conclusion of my visit, I felt that there was some frustration for me to even be there - I’m frustrated too. I’ve had migraines for years, it took me five months to even get my first appointment and the medications I was prescribed did work but they’re taking longer to work in the ways needed. My second physical exam was considered fine, however, I don’t think my symptoms would have been considered had I not even said “hey, can I tell you about x,y,z?”
I do have a family history of migraines, but to be told you’ll just have to deal with them was tough, as I have been dealing with them for many years. I’m coming to a practice to find relief, not be treated like a number or disregarded because it’s hereditary. I’m hoping this was just a bad day and not a normal interaction. At the conclusion of my appointment, I did get imagining ordered and a follow-up, but do wish the bedside manner was a little more welcoming.
I’m having migraines and other symptoms 3-4 days/week. One a migraine is relieved, I get one or two days before I’m back with one. I hope my next appointment is better, I’m a very patient person. But if not, I’ll be looking for a new group all together for my entire care team.
