As doctors, there is a duty to your patients to be kind, understanding, and sympathetic. I did not have this experience today with Dr. Marcus Cook.
After telling Dr. Cook about a recurring pain that has been ongoing for about 2–3 years, an issue that I've even seen him for before, I asked for a simple note detailing my issue. He declined and said, "Everybody has that. I can't write a note for that. I even have that," belittling me and making me feel lesser about myself. When I asked if I could simply have documentation explaining that this issue was permanent, just so my work has it on file, he gave me more grief, despite previously indicating that it was a permanent issue. I eventually let it go.
Then, he proceeded to talk loudly in the outside area about me, clear enough for me to hear, making further comments about the severity of my condition. Despite what sounded like a kind female physician expressing sympathy, he replied loudly in response, "Yeah, but everybody has that." Who says that? Dismissing a chronic condition so casually, especially to a patient you have treated for over two years, reflects poorly on the level of care and respect being provided. Speaking about a patient’s condition within earshot of that patient demonstrates a lack of discretion and basic professionalism.
This conduct was disappointing and inappropriate.
I've never written a bad review of any sort of practice before, but I felt the need to write this one today. I will not be returning to this practice again. In my experience, the quality of care has dropped since 2023, and Dr. Cook's actions felt callous and unsympathetic, as though patients are being moved in and out without meaningful care.
