For the past year I have been going back and forth with National Seating and Mobility because they processed another child's order under my insurance and will not correct it. I have called and spoke to every department and they transfer me to all different people and no one can help me. I keep getting transfered to Stephanie and she never calls back. I even dug a little deeper and spoke to a manager named Rhi Carney just to be called back by someone else to say the issue was resolved and it was not. My child is almost 2 and has outgrown her infant carseat. At this point I am forced to buy my disabled child a stroller out of pocket after I already have to pay monthly for our insurance because the insurance company says National Seating and Mobility will not clear the order for someone's child on my account. This has taken so much time away from my already busy life and has also caused me so much stress, frustration and anguish. I WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM OR RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE EVER AGAIN.

My daughter has been a client of NSM for close to 20 years. For sometime now they have a new system in having to go through a call center in order to reach our local branch which has become a nightmare. Each time I call I have been on hold for close to a 1/2 hour only to repeat the same information over and over. As of late it took 8 phone calls to set up an appointment to have someone come out to address our needs.
Life is challenging enough having a child with special needs and this system is only making things more stressful.
It would behoove NSM to revert back to the allowing people to call their branch directly!

I work in healthcare management trying to help a patient with their wheelchair, and I was on hold for over 20 minutes — not one person answered. This is unacceptable, especially when patients depend on their mobility equipment for daily life. It shouldn’t be this hard to reach someone for help. The lack of communication and urgency from National Seating & Mobility is incredibly frustrating and unprofessional.

We have purchased two electric power chairs from national seating and mobility in the last 7 years. Robert Flanagan has been our contact there and has always been willing to go the extra mile to ensure that our experience is great. Robert cares about everyone that he deals with and you can tell that he is truly interested in helping people get through some difficult times!
The office and support staff, as well , do everything they can to deal with the not so friendly insurance companies and they try to cut through as much of their red tape as possible. I highly recommend this company if you are considering an electric powerchair. Thank you Robert for your exemplary service and caring attitude!

Frequently Asked Questions About National Seating & Mobility
What makes NSM the preferred choice for obtaining mobility solutions?
At NSM, we are uniquely positioned to search hundreds of sources for the precise components needed to create a chair that is made specifically to meet the needs of each client. Each chair can be designed for maximum comfort and ease and will provide the specific therapeutic benefits prescribed for you by the health care team. But what really sets NSM apart is our approach. We work from the heart, honoring your journey of independence with efficient, friendly attention that puts your interests first. This is our life’s work—to help others move through life—and we take it very seriously.
How can I work with NSM for my mobility needs?
National Seating & Mobility is a member of your rehabilitation health care team. We work with your physician, nurses and therapists to provide a one-of-a-kind mobility solution customized to your needs and preferences. Because we work in a partnership with your health care team, we require a referral from them in order to be your mobility provider. To help ensure your choice of NSM, you should request that your physician and/or therapist select us as your provider of choice.
How long does it take to get a new power wheelchair from NSM?
NSM strives to complete each timeline phase as quickly as possible without compromising any step in the process. Please refer to this page for the full timeline. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Why must I see a doctor to get a wheelchair from NSM?
Our clients have mobility challenges and are referred to us by therapists and physicians to receive mobility solutions that meets all their unique needs. If you need a wheelchair, your best plan is to talk with your physician or therapist and get a thorough evaluation from a qualified Rehab Technology Supplier (RTS).
What if my medical condition changes?
Contact your local NSM branch and notify us of any changes that may affect the proper fit and function of your chair.
Are there any dangers in using an off-the-shelf wheelchair?
Definitely. A standard or not customized chair can cause more harm than good. People come in all shapes and sizes; their chairs must be designed to fit them. In severe situations, a standard or not customized chair may:
- Cause significant physiological and psychological problems
- Lead to an increase in dependence because it’s not used due to lack of comfort
- Cause pressure sores, or decubitus, due to improper cushioning
- Become obsolete quickly if not configured to “grow with the child”
- Become a major expense to replace or reconfigure, because most funding sources will only reimburse for a new chair every five years.
Do I have a choice of which mobility solutions company to use?
The choice of a wheeled mobility supplier is yours. Discuss your decision with your physician and therapist.
