The doctor and technician were amazing at the Northlake location however, I was very disappointed with the staff member who checked my child in. When I told her I had left my insurance card at home, she immediately said, “We don’t accept Medicaid,” loudly and in front of other customers. I never said my child has Medicaid, and I explained that we have Community Care Eye Insurance. Her comment was unprofessional, and there were more appropriate ways to handle the situation, for example, simply asking what eye insurance I have or checking the system, since my child has been seen there multiple times and I’ve always used the same insurance. Because of how she approached me, I felt embarrassed and singled out. What made it worse is that I witnessed her speak much more quietly and discreetly to a white customer who was having trouble locating her insurance information. The difference in how we were treated made me feel discriminated against. Due to this experience for making my child feel out of place I no longer feel comfortable returning for future eye exams, and this will likely be my last time purchasing glasses too.
