I went to ER with a diagnosed UTI this past Tuesday. I was experiencing chills and back pain. After triage I was wheeled back into waiting area for what seemed like forever. When I finally made it back into a room several attempts were made to insert an IV. It was obvious to me that as they were unable to find veins that I was severely dehydrated.
They did manage to eventually insert an IV in order for me to undergo a Cat scan with contrast. My arm is now severely varicosed thanks to that. Results of all tests were inconclusive but apparently the Cat scan did find a normal appendix. Funny thing is that my appendix was removed over 50 years ago.
I had arrived at the ER around 5:30 pm and discharged just before midnight having received tests but no treatment as such.
The next day I had a fever of 101 and started vomiting. I tried very hard to keep up with fluids and eventually broke the fever.
The following day I was so weak that I collapsed on the floor and my husband called an ambulance.
I was taken to Atrium Ballantyne. They too had difficulty finding my veins but persevered finally using an ultrasound. They gave me 2 liters of fluids and I was discharged.
The difference in care between the two facilities was night and day. if Novant had only given me fluids on Tuesday I would not have suffered the way I did over the next 48 hours.
it is obvious that Novant is understaffed and there needs to be a rehash of their triage procedures.
Would I recommend Novant ER to anyone. Emphatic NO!
Would I ever go to Novant in the future. Emphatic NO!
So much money has gone into building this lovely looking facility but it's a pity that their service and staffing levels are so poor.

I am so afraid of the doctor. My primary care doctor sent me to the emergency room to make sure I didn’t have a blood clot. First, my wait time was less than like 30 minutes. The nurses and staff were amazing. I wish I remembered their names but they truly made me feel as close to home as I could be. They were so professional and just treated me like a human. I hope they never change.
I waited 3hrs in the waiting room because "there was only 1 doctor working" (this was a Saturday around 12noon) in excruciating nerve pain that affected my head, my face, my spine. It was AWFUL.
They finally got me in a room that looked more like a storage room? No sink, or there was a sink but it looked like an afterthought and there was no soap nor paper towels to wash/dry with. I wasn't offered a blanket or anything like that.
I was finally seen by a Ross Williams who, after I told my symptoms to and was very physically obvious I had shingles on my eye/face, proceeded to SQUEEZE THE BLISTERS!!! A "doctor"??? He did it for a good 60 seconds while I cried and yelled because it hurt SO much.
You should not squeeze shingles blisters because it breaks the skin's natural protective barrier, significantly increasing the risk of bacterial infection, delaying healing, and potentially causing scarring. The fluid-filled blister protects the raw skin underneath, and popping it exposes this vulnerable layer to germs, making it harder to heal and prone to secondary infections.
A "doctor" should know this.....right???
PLEASE PLEASE if you must go to this establishment, please make sure to ask what doctor is working. If they say Ross Williams, try a different ER.

My 13 year old daughter is currently being kept against her will and my own at this facility. I asked for a dismissal and requested the involuntary commitment paperwork, physician findings, and explanation of our rights, with a qualified French interpreter. Everything was refused they told us go see the magistrate tomorrow we can’t give you a copy. The interpreter couldn’t speak the French language properly violated our VI civil and 1557 ACA SECTION. The request to see an ombudsman after 22hr wait to find out what’s really going on and when she will be discharged was denied with no update. Then the security detail CAME ASKING US TO LEAVE THE PREMISES with zero update as to where my daughter will be when I’ll see her. I’ve given them a written dismissal request 5pm. They told me no ivc is in place they will put in place the dismissal after 2hrs wait they changed and said there’s a ivc but refused to show it. Why were we called in to sign transfer papers ? The fake IVC WAS NOT MADE TONIGHT 6 pm or now 9:48 timeline. These people will take your kids leaving you in the blank on lies sign transportation documents. I beg you go elsewhere.

Our first visit in March of 2025 to the emergency room was fantastic. My daughter had a severe stomach virus and had gotten dehydrated. She was seen quickly and the nurses and doctors were fantastic, it was a good experience. So when my daughter started experiencing severe stomach pain this past Friday, I did not hesitate to return there. It was a totally different experience. She was in severe pain throwing up and it took well over an hour for them to see her even after going through triage. We had to constantly ask at the desk when someone could see her. Once we were in the back I was not pleased with how a couple of the nurses spoke to us or treated us. If we questioned the time we were told "we fast tracked you." At one point after receiving morphine my daughter's oxygen level dropped from 98 to 66 in seconds. I pressed the button and ask for help and when the nurse came in the room her response was "We have monitors we can see what's going on." She was even asked before she received pain medication if she wanted a flu shot. Are you kidding me? Once they found out she had appendicitis things started moving rapidly and thankfully she was transported to Matthews at 3am. The transport team and the Matthews hospital could not have been a better experience. Night and day. Maybe they should come back and train the Ballantyne hospital ER
I would hesitate to return
I will say the gentleman that was Radiology tech that came to get my daughter for Ct and performed it (I assume) was so nice. Her nurse Joey was also very nice and caring
