This review has nothing to do with the therapists here, this is entirely about the practice/ownership, which has become genuinely awful. It wasn’t always this way. But since Optum (owned by United Healthcare) bought them, it’s been clear that money is the only priority, not their clients’ wellbeing. I haven’t seen anyone at this practice in a while, so I was blindsided when I got a bill out of nowhere for a visit from over a year and a half ago. When I looked into it, my insurance had denied the claim. I work in healthcare, so I understand billing. I pulled my EOB and it was obvious the denial was because the provider was listed as out-of-network. What made no sense was that every single visit before and after that date was covered with just my copay. NC Center for Resiliency kept insisting it was a deductible issue. I explained, repeatedly, that I didn’t have a deductible on that plan, and even if I did, why would every other visit that year be covered without one? They wouldn’t hear it. So I did the legwork myself and contacted my insurance directly. They confirmed that the claim was denied because the practice changed their name during the Optum transition. A clerical error on their end caused a credentialing issue, and they billed me for their mistake. I contacted the office repeatedly asking them to resubmit the claim. They refused. I asked for a manager and it never happened. Eventually they opened a “ticket,” which led to one conversation with an offshore billing rep who just repeated the same scripted responses and said they’d escalate it. I never heard from anyone again. Then they sent me to collections. No warning. No “pay by this date or else.” Just collections. This has been a nightmare, and the worst part is it was entirely their fault. TLDR: Avoid this place. Since Optum took over, it’s become all about extracting money. They will not help you resolve their own billing issues, they will not listen to you, and they will send you to collections without warning. The therapists may be good, but the business side is a disaster.

Beware if contacted by this company if you have medicare, they are NOT ETHICAL. I was contacted by a mental health company "AbleTo.com" on 17Oct25. Conner told me that I was eligible for 8 weeks of therapy at no cost because I had UHC/medicare. The therapist, Ann Bessner LCMHC, was nice and seemed to really listen. THEN in December, Ann said she was "being transferred to SC". I was told that Angela Briseno LCSW w/ NC Center For Resiliency was assigned to me AND that Able To had checked with my NC State Health plan (Aetna) and that I was approved for several more weeks of therapy, also at no cost. My 1st visit w/ Angela was on 9Jan. On 16Jan at 9:39am I received a txt from NC Res stating that I had a bill and it gave the website to pay. Since my appt w/ Angela was at noon the same day, I asked her about it, after checking the website. Angela told me that she knew nothing about the bill, but that it was probably just an error and that it took time for insurance to process. I received payment demands via txts on Sat 17Jan, Mon 19Jan and 26Jan. I got nowhere with billing, so on my next visit, 6Feb, I told Angela that I would not continue with her because, I was already billed over $1k for 2 visits. I continued to contact billing. On 03Mar, Lee at NC Resiliency said Aetna refused payment. I asked why I had been told by Ann Bessner that Aetna had already approved the visits, even before I was switched to NC Resil. Lee claimed ignorance, but said she opened a claim w/ ticket # 5-32725. I was to have heard from them in 5-7 business days, after an "investigation". It's 30Mar26 and I just got another txt re: billing, but now I cannot get into the website for the clearing house: "AthenaHealth.com". This company is a ripoff. They prey on anyone who seems to have insurance. I'm retired w/ UHC/medicare. Stay away from NC Center For Resiliency!!!

Out of all the mental health practitioners I’ve worked with, this is the only place that has actually shown some initiative to help their customers. Other places can barely schedule an appointment, or they focus on getting paid, or meeting some minimum number of appointments. This place actually helped me. They did their job, and that’s a rare thing in this field!

As the Executive Director of a treatment center in Cary I can whole-heartedly recommend the NC Center for Resiliency to anyone who needs quality psychotherapy services. After several discussions with Kim, a tour of their center and meeting with many of their therapists we have felt very comfortable recommending their services to our discharging clients and also our family & friends. I especially appreciate the fact they have a diversity in approach and a skilled admissions counselor who listens to the client's needs and matches them to a therapist that is a great fit for them. Everyone is anxious about taking the first step and getting help. I hope that their wonderful reviews will help lower that barrier and get you or your loved one in the door.
