- DSDerrick SowdersFeb 11, 20261.0I had my new wheelchair for just a couple weeks when one of the front wheels broke. I called to make an appointment and was told they would call me back to set up a visit when the parts came in. Three weeks later, one of the rear tires blew so I called them back to add this repair to the list since no one had called me back yet. Was told they had to open a new repair order and they would call when the parts came in so I could set up a repair visit for two wheels now instead of one. I've been waiting three weeks again so I finally bought the parts I need off of Amazon and will fix myself this weekend. Fortunately, I still had my old chair, otherwise I don't know how I would be getting around for the last few weeks. I don't know how long it generally takes parts to come in, but I'm pretty sure they could be obtained from anywhere in the world well within three weeks.

She is caring, attentive to the needs of customers, goes the extra mile to make sure they are helped. She gives “old fashioned”, real customer service.
- STSara Beth TransueApr 29, 20255.0I recently became a wheelchair user and was in need of a wheelchair. I chose NSM because they were the closest in network provider for my insurance. Unfortunately as is common now my insurance would not cover my chair, in spite of the efforts of multiple staff and providers with NSM. Even though my insurance wouldn’t cover it, I still purchased my custom chair through NSM because their out of pocket pricing was more than fair, and their staff are so caring and they go above and beyond. Special shout out to Melissa who guided me through the entire scenario on the administrative side, and Barbara and Jim who made sure my chair was specific to my needs so that I could be as comfortable as possible. When it’s time for repairs or a new chair, I’ll definitely be back!

How long does it take to get a new power wheelchair from NSM?
NSM strives to complete each timeline phase as quickly as possible without compromising any step in the process. Please refer to this page for the full timeline. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Why must I see a doctor to get a wheelchair from NSM?
Our clients have mobility challenges and are referred to us by therapists and physicians to receive mobility solutions that meets all their unique needs. If you need a wheelchair, your best plan is to talk with your physician or therapist and get a thorough evaluation from a qualified Rehab Technology Supplier (RTS).
What if my medical condition changes?
Contact your local NSM branch and notify us of any changes that may affect the proper fit and function of your chair.
Are there any dangers in using an off-the-shelf wheelchair?
Definitely. A standard or not customized chair can cause more harm than good. People come in all shapes and sizes; their chairs must be designed to fit them. In severe situations, a standard or not customized chair may:
- Cause significant physiological and psychological problems
- Lead to an increase in dependence because it’s not used due to lack of comfort
- Cause pressure sores, or decubitus, due to improper cushioning
- Become obsolete quickly if not configured to “grow with the child”
- Become a major expense to replace or reconfigure, because most funding sources will only reimburse for a new chair every five years.
Do I have a choice of which mobility solutions company to use?
The choice of a wheeled mobility supplier is yours. Discuss your decision with your physician and therapist.
