  My brother and his wife were killed in an airplane crash on August 27, 2025, near Kansas City. I very much wanted to attend their funeral in California, but having my husband accompany me would have been highly inadvisable and a wreckless decision. He is a high fall risk and has Alzheimer's. I learned quickly that nursing homes don't welcome temporary residents for four days. Home Instead was a blessing--not in disguise--but a solid and reliable and experienced care provider. Four well trained caregivers came to our house around the clock for four nights and five days. I think my husband felt like he was a professional travel guide. "This is what WE will do today"! The caregivers listened to endless stories, watched TV with him, helped with puzzles, enjoyed meals together, and even took him to restaurants and the grocery store (I had previously authorized these short trips). They tidied up the kitchen, fed our cats, and helped my husband safely cruise around the house with his walker. I appreciated owner Debbie Walkenhorst interviewing both of us in our home before she agreed to accept this assignment, and also writing detailed notes to the caregivers about my husband's condition. Debbie's background as a registered nurse is another bonus to clients like me. My husband received excellent care from Home Instead, and even though the double funeral was an immensely sad occasion, I found joy in reconnecting with family members, some who had traveled great distances to California. Home Instead made my trip possible and I will be forever grateful for their outstanding caregiving skills for my husband.

  Home Instead has been a blessing to our family. The staff is helpful and is always willing to help with our needs. Meghan has become a trusted friend to my dad and he looks forward to the days she works.
