Up until recently I would have given the team a much higher rating. I've been very reluctant to post any reviews due to not wanting my quality of care to decrease but given how things have continued I need to call attention to this.
I have been bounced between cardiology and my primary for undiagnosed chest pain for over a year. Cardiology has run their tests, albeit somewhat reluctantly, and have sent me back in good standing. Anytime I report any issues with chest pain I get told to seek a second opinion or talk to my primary. My primary will constantly refers me back to cardiology. This is not the cardiology teams fault, however, I am getting now being dismissed and treated like a nuisance any time I contact them per my primary teams instructions. Messages are extremely dismissive. I noticed a change in one of my arteries' pulse after my cath procedure in January and was dismissed. No investigation, no nothing.
Months later going into August this change in my pulse persisted and I noticed swelling some occasional pain and some numbness and tingling. I messaged the care team and all I got was "That would not be related to the cath." Another dismissal. I stated that new swelling and pain doesn't seem like something you just dismiss. Coincidentally I went to establish care with a new primary the next day through a different medical group and brought this up to him. He felt the area, listened, and immediately confirmed that it needed investigation. He called it a "thrill", which could be symptomatic of a pseudoaneurysm or fistula. After I read a reply from SSM stating if I want to make an appointment a nurse would see me.
I informed I just had a visit and the doctor confirmed was a finding (after their initial dismissal of my concerns)and asked if they could expedite an ultrasound since it would be on my chart that an issue was found. No response.
To summarize, I was brushed off because the cardiology team was frustrsted at me coming to them for my concerns (again, because my primary suggested this), and tried to brush me off more than once for concerns over the cath that was done, only to find out months later through different hospital that there is a complication as a result of the cath, which could have been caught and treated easily if I hadn't been ignored the first time. Now I have to get a procedure done to fix the mistake that occurred with SSM, and Im definitely getting it through a different team because I no longer trust this one to even care about complications let alone handle them.
I understand that my situation is unique, complicated and probably frustrating. I also understand that there are people in emergency situations at any given time of day. That doesn't justify making a patient feel like a burden, and definitely doesn't justify a care team being reluctant to check their own work if a concern arises. What's worse is Im still having chest pain and at this point I dont even bother bringing it up. I haven't been able to sleep without chest pain in who knows how long. If your issues may be a quick easy find or fix, youre probably good to go here. If its easy, theyre great. If you want people patient enough to try and work with you when things are complicated to figure out, go elsewhere.
