I came in with severe pain caused by an infection around the root of a molar and was referred out for a root canal, which is already scheduled. Despite the obvious pain, I was offered nothing for relief. I was told that switching antibiotics would help, but after days of continued pain, it clearly did not. Following their advice, I alternated ibuprofen, Tylenol, and used salt rinses and ice packs—none of which touched the pain. My primary care provider even suggested I contact the dental office again, as they were the ones treating and diagnosing the issue and should be able to prescribe something stronger for comfort until the root canal. Still, Dr. Baylie refused to prescribe anything, instructing only to keep alternating over-the-counter medications. In tears from the pain, I asked if they could consult a supervising or senior doctor for a second opinion. I explained that I could barely swallow, my glands were badly swollen, and the pain had become unbearable. The receptionist said she would speak with the owner and check with Dr. Baylie again, then call me back. Instead of receiving a call, I was sent a text message stating that Dr. Baylie would prescribe Tylenol 3s. No one should have to plead for relief in this kind of situation just to receive the care they should have been given from the start. By that point, I had decided to call back and cancel my upcoming filling appointment and requested a refund for what I had already paid. Tooth pain is among the worst pain anyone can experience, and it’s disheartening to be met with such a lack of compassion or urgency. I’ve since rescheduled with another dental office that truly seems to care about their patients’ comfort and well-being.
