QUEST DIAGNOSTICS IN LEE’S SUMMIT, MISSOURI HAS A GENUINE FIRST-CLASS JEWEL OF AN EMPLOYEE IN MARY SMITH.
First, let me tell you a little about myself. Ever since I have had to have blood drawn through the years (I am 70 years old), I have been told I have tiny veins and/or rolling veins. Multiple needles are often used when 1 needle should be enough. I have gone to a number of different facilities and kept suffering the same pain.
My doctor wants my blood tested every 3 months. This frequency increased my dread of the procedure even more.
THEN I MET MARY SMITH!!!
Consistently, she is able to pierce my vein on the first try with only the slightest discomfort when the needle enters the vein. She is extremely efficient and works quickly.
On top of her tremendous skill, she is a very friendly woman with a warm heart. I have decided that I will only allow Mary Smith to take care of me when I visit your facility.
I KNOW THIS SOUNDS A LITTLE STRANGE, BUT MARY MANAGES TO MAKE A BLOOD WITHDRAWL, A VERY ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE.
Sincerely,
Nancy Carrel

Doesn’t matter if you schedule an appointment or not.
Your time means nothing. You will wait no matter what.
This is what happens when you eliminate the people

Absolutely terrible experience.
1. A scheduled appointment still net a 45 min wait.
2. Once into the patient room we still spent over 45 minutes with the nurse struggling to use her computer system. She was unable to use context and think outside the box for entering in the names of the Dr. and facility that sent me. I had to help her spell out what GI means and I had to Google the Dr.'s name for her since the Nurse Practitioner signed the order and wasn't automatically coming up in her software system.
3. I was nearly sent home with the stool sample kit and ZERO instructions. I had to ask all of the questions and when I asked about when/how to return. I was told "just bring it by in the morning".
4. I show up to drop off the sample only to find out you have to check in and do more paperwork and WAIT in the waiting room again.
5. Even the touchscreen system for this is very illogical. You have to press the "Help" button to then see a menu with the option for "drop off serum sample". In what universe is that intuitive?
Ultimately this is a joke. This is such a sad sad representation of where the nation is headed in its relentless effort to reduce employee overhead. Places like this no longer have receptionist and its infuriating unless everything goes absolutely according to plan. What if the plan is being made by nurses new to the system? Such a shame. If I had any choice I would never ever visit this place again.

Very fast, friendly and professional. I like the Quest Portal which retrieved all of me lab results back more than 10 years -- very handy. 90% of results were available in a day. A few took 5 days.

I've historically had decent experiences here (aside from almost always getting blown veins from their blood draws), but just know that the "standby list" is a joke. I was fine waiting the 30 to 60 minutes advertised upon check-in, but I waited 2 hours for nothing while they served 1 or 2 people at a time. Apparently the 2 minutes it would've taken to let me pee in a cup would've destroyed the universe. Not a super fun experience today. So if you're planning on going here, let my awful morning be a lesson to you. Make an appointment. The standby list is a terrible purgatory.

What do I need to know before I arrive at a Quest Patient Service Center?
Please be aware that when you visit a Quest Patient Service Center:
• Scheduled appointments are strongly encouraged and will receive priority. Please arrive and check in 10 minutes before your appointment time. If you check in more than 10 minutes late for your appointment, you will be served as a walk-in.

Do you accept walk-ins?
Scheduled appointments are strongly encouraged and will receive priority. If you walk in, you will have to wait for the next available opening.
Should I be fasting?
Fasting before a blood draw means you don’t eat or drink anything except water. If your test requires it, don't forget to fast for 8-12 hours before your appointment. If you’re not sure, contact your doctor's office. To learn more about how to prepare for your test, visit QuestDiagnostics.com/patients/get-tested/prepare/fasting for additional fasting information.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Please arrive and check in 10 minutes before your appointment time. If you check in more than 10 minutes late for your appointment, you will be served as a walk-in.
You should bring the following to your appointment:
•A lab order from your doctor. If your doctor did not give you a paper order, check with them to see if they sent it electronically.
•Photo identification listing your first name, last name, and date of birth (for example, a driver's license, government issued photo ID, Passport, or Green Card).
•Current health insurance information.
•Credit, debit, or health savings card. You will be asked to preauthorize payment for any balance due after your insurance is billed.
It’s important to also know if your test requires fasting the day before and/or morning of your appointment. Your healthcare provider should have indicated this on your lab order or during your visit. Learn more about fasting before a lab test.
Note: Childcare is not available and the waiting area is not attended. Some testing protocols, such as drug screenings or pre-employment screenings, have strict rules which do not allow children to accompany the patient during sample collection. If you have questions about your testing protocols, please contact your healthcare professional or employer for additional information.
How do I check in when I arrive?
Sign in using the Check-in kiosk, or if not available, sign the clipboard at the front desk. Please be prepared to present a valid photo ID and insurance information. Be sure to mark the reason for your visit when signing in.
If you were unable to preregister ahead of time, and would like to do so, you may be able to complete the registration process if you arrive a few minutes early at a Quest Patient Service Center that has a Check-in kiosk. When you check in with your mobile number, you may be asked if you want to complete the registration process on your smartphone while you wait.
My doctor told me they would send over an order. Do you have it?
If your doctor said they would send us the order electronically or via fax, there is no need to confirm that we have the order. If we do not have the order, we will call the doctor to obtain it when you arrive at our Quest Patient Service Center. To prevent delays, be sure to visit our location during your doctor’s office hours or obtain a copy of your order from your doctor.
How soon after my visit will my doctor receive my lab test results?
Turnaround times for test results can vary. If you have a MyQuest account, your test results will be delivered to your account as soon as they are available. This can take 2-5 business days from the time the sample is received, depending on your test.
You should always follow up with your doctor to discuss your results.
