My review is for Dr. Chen as a pain management specialist.
I have documented nerve damage in my neck and have undergone two disc replacement surgeries with no improvement. I was referred to Dr. Chen specifically for pain management. Initially, the experience was positive—he was attentive, optimistic, and reassuring.
Since then, we have gone through multiple interventions, including diagnostic testing, medial branch block (MBB) injections, trigger point injections, and physical therapy. I have already completed home PT previously and am now being referred again, despite no meaningful benefit from prior completed courses.
At this point, rather than offering a new treatment plan or escalation of care, I am being told I need to obtain yet another referral to a different provider. After exhausting the standard pain management options without relief, this response is deeply concerning.
This situation reflects either a lack of appropriate expertise in managing complex nerve pain or a failure to provide continuity of care, both of which are unacceptable for a pain management specialist. Patients with chronic pain deserve proactive problem-solving—not dismissal once common treatments fail.
If appropriate care and guidance do not begin promptly, I will be pursuing escalation through The Joint Commission and consulting legal counsel to determine next steps.
Edit: will only converse by phone not through email. When i try to send a second email there is a server error and has been since ive been trying.
