First things first, I am an allergy patient of Dr McDonald. I only see him about once a year, but Yolanda is very thorough and very prompt, but Dr McDonald seems to be thorough on accident. It is always casual and in recline. Dr McDonald is well trained and knows his business.
The allergy department is a of a circus. If you value your own time, if you can , try to find another place to get your allergy shots.
Over the years it has been my experience that the people working in the allergy department work at their own speed which means you can get your shots in 5 to 7 minutes or you may have to wait over an hour.
You can always get lucky and get allergy technicians that will get you in and out very quickly.
The allergy department does not take appointments to get your shots nor do they take appointments for you to be trained to have your own shots for yourself.
The allergy shots department is first come first serve. You have to sign in and wait your turn.
Because of this , sometimes, I go weeks without getting my shots because I have my own rule that I don't wait more than 15 minutes.
There is ample parking as it shares a building with the MU urgent Care at the bottom level and Dr McDonald's office is on the second floor.
There is an elevator and they're also stairs.
I find that the waiting room for allergy shots to be claustrophobic as there is poor ventilation and there are no windows. There is a water cooler outside the waiting room for allergy shots.
The main waiting room is decent size but it has no windows and the magazine collection is weak.

I have been a patient at this practice for years and I have always been completely satisfied with all levels of service. Dr McDonald is extremely knowledgeable in the medical field. He was the first medical professional to detect cancer in my thyroid. He recommended the surgeon that would be best for me in that and another medical problem, and he was totally correct. Yolanda is absolutely the best as his assistant. She has also always been totally accurate in her diagnosis. Excellent medical care is both worth paying for and worth waiting for.

I had gone to this office for a long time, and I’ve never had experienced so much unprofessionalism from their allergy staff last year as they had made excuses indicating that they were training new staff, which caused people to wait at least 20 minutes for shots. This got bad to the point where I had requested my records be transferred to a different doctor. They were never transferred to a different doctor, and I had also found out that from the new doctor that I had seen that I shouldn’t be on allergy shots due to my being on a beta blocker, that was it. This majorily conflicts with Yolanda’s recommendation that if I have an allergic reaction to take 4 teaspoons of Benadryl and call 911. Before that I had not known any better. I had requested from Dr. McDonald’s office that my upcoming retest be canceled, which it was not because Dr. McDonald’s office called me today asking if I was still getting my treatments. I told them no because I had fired them month is ago. They then said that they were sorry to hear that, and asked if I wanted to keep my retesting appointment scheduled in a week. I told them no because I had canceled it previously. This is very unprofessional and I would suggest that if you need allergy treatment to go somewhere else.

It is so bad, I wanna give you a zero, but that’s not possible. So I give you… a one.
Far more miserable than before seeing them. Don’t even care to elaborate I am in so much unnecessary pain. I will say if you’re having a bad/allergic reaction to your medication don’t expect them to respond to your message(s) or help you.

Some of the reviews here reinforce the phenomenon that unhappy people will go out of their way to post their comments. (“They’re not happy unless they’re not happy.”) Whereas most happy ‘customers’ are just thankful to receive good treatment and get on with things. But after the time and attention they’ve shown me, I owe it to them to take a moment and post.
I’m a new patient. They don’t even know me. But Dr. McDonald, Yolanda, Nya (or Mya?, sorry), and the entire staff treated me as if I were a valued customer (ok, ‘patient.’)
The front desk staff have been friendly, professional, and prompt, and so have the nurses and the doctor. They took care to explain the allergy test and what reasonable expectations should be. They didn’t rush me in-and-out but there also weren’t any unnecessary delays. In other words, they gave me the time I needed. So I’ll know next time, if I do have to wait a bit, it’s because the patient before me is also getting the time that they needed. Seems fair.
And one more thing that made an impression, the office isn’t overflowing with expensive furniture and big screen TVs. In other words, I’m only paying for medical care - not costly overhead that doesn’t do anything to improve my health.
The big surprise was that Dr. McDonald already knew my medical history before he walked in the room. He’d actually read my file. You’re right, that should not be a surprise but nowadays, how often do you have to tell a Doctor all the information that they already had you put on those forms? But not here. Dr. McDonald walked in the room and started discussing my health as if he’d been treating me for years.
This degree of being thorough and actively engaged in my care felt like old-fashioned medicine where the family doctor knows you and treats you accordingly - and so does everyone else in the office. I have to drive here from out of town but that’s a minor inconvenience compared to this level of care.
