It’s unfortunate that I am writing this review. When MU and my insurance did not renew their contract, it left me and tons of others finding a new provider that accepted the insurance.
I called this clinic. Checked to see if they accept the insurance and new patients-yes to both. Scheduled an appointment and was instructed to complete new patient paperwork via the portal.
1. I asked for the web site - receptionist said “just Google it”. I should have known then it was not going to be pleasant.
2. Appointment date is approaching. Received a text to confirm appointment. Done.
3. I then finally received the web address, via text, to complete the new patient paperwork. Three times I tried to create an account, three times the system wouldn’t allow me. I did find some info to fill out/print out. Which I did and took with me.
4. Appointment date arrived. Showed up 30 mins early, knowing I would have to complete paperwork. Walked in, asked if I was in the right place. Being this is the first visit. Receptionist said “yes, are you Laura”. I confirmed.
5. Receptionist said “did you complete the new patient paperwork”, explained I had tried and 3 times it would not allow me on the site, but I did bring what I was able to complete. She then said “so you haven’t completed it. Did you get the text sent today?” I confirmed I did receive a text today, as I was walking into the eye doctor. Further explaining I was trying to get all appointments done in the day I took off work. She again, for the third time, said “so you don’t have the paperwork filled out”. At this time, I asked her “is there a problem? I have tried multiple times to fill it out.”
The return, condescending tone from the receptionist, telling me “well the paperwork takes time to complete”. Mind you, I showed up 30 mins before my scheduled appointment.
6. I asked “can I sit here and fill it out?” The receptionist then handed me a clipboard and pen. I sat down, noticing she was staring at me during this brief period. I looked at the first page, pulled out info I had brought with me, and realizing some of it was the same. Ok-so I could move to the other pages. The time was not long that I sat there, but felt her staring at me. I stood up, handed her the clipboard back, informed her I will find somewhere else to go. Before I left, I told her, “you don’t have to be so rude to people”.
My problem with this whole experience started when I made the appointment. I asked for a website and was shrugged off and told to Google it. My next issue is treating me like I’m ignorant. I’m a computer savvy person and I was having issues getting to the information to fill out. What if I didn’t have access? What if I had been someone that wasn’t comfortable with computers? Is she going to treat everyone like that? I understand technology has replaced a lot of pen & paper, but there are times it will be necessary.
The receptionist was absolutely out of line asking me multiple times. The receptionist should have taken my first answer, handed me the paperwork, and be done with the situation. So sorry she was going to have to do some work on her end. What if the entire freaking server was down and no one could complete anything online?
Unfortunately I was not seen by the nurse practitioner due to her employee. Unfortunately I now have to search for another provider, taking another day off work, which could have been prevented had the receptionist been a little more understanding. I felt as if I was being scolded because I showed up 30 mins early, which they told me to, and was prepared to hand fill all the new patient paperwork.
People need to do better. The younger gens need to understand things happen and things go wrong, it’s not the end of the world if someone has to complete paperwork by pen & paper.
