Highly Unprofessional and Unequipped for Families
I had an incredibly frustrating experience at Boone County Labs today. As a mother visiting with a five-year-old and a two-year-old, I found this facility to be remarkably hostile toward families.
1. Unacceptable Lack of Basic Facilities
Despite being located directly downstairs from Tiger Pediatrics and seeing a high volume of young patients, this lab does not have a baby changing station in the bathroom. It is a massive oversight and frankly bad business for a medical facility catering to young families to lack such a basic necessity. Forcing parents to navigate diaper changes without a sanitary, designated space is a significant failure in patient care.
2. Rude and Confrontational Staff
The front-desk experience was even worse. I arrived with the physical orders from my doctor, but the trainee receptionist refused to take them when I first approached, telling me to sit down. After waiting, she then claimed they didn't have my orders and suggested I might need to reschedule.
When I pointed out that I had been trying to give her the paperwork since I walked in, she became defensive and rude. At that point, a male staff member came out and caused a scene, accusing me of being rude in front of my children. Both of my kids were visibly upset and "looking on in horror" at the way these adults were acting.
3. Final Verdict
There are professional ways to handle a busy lobby or a new trainee's mistake; however, this staff chose to be aggressive and unhelpful. If you are a parent with young children, I highly recommend going elsewhere. This facility is neither equipped for nor welcoming to the demographic they serve.
