Very poor experience at SSM Emergency Department. I arrived around 10:00 p.m. and stayed until about 3:00 a.m., only to leave without answers and feeling completely dismissed.
An overnight staff member named Melissa with red-orange hair was rude and had a terrible attitude the entire night. When I told her I was uncomfortable with the IV in my hand, she ignored me and responded in a combative and dismissive way, saying, “What do you want me to do, get somebody else?” She was argumentative, snobby, and even rolled her eyes at me. Her badge was also flipped around, so her name was not clearly visible.
There was also miscommunication about contrast for my CT scan. I was there for over 3 hours and no one gave it to me, and no one could explain why. I left frustrated, uncomfortable, and still with no answers.
To make matters worse, this overnight employee made smart remarks at the end, saying, “I’m sorry that you were angry and upset and have an attitude.” I told her I did not have an attitude, and she responded, “Well, it look like it.” That was completely unprofessional and unnecessary. When I checked MyChart afterward, I saw a note from Melissa the RN at 3:18 a.m. that made it sound like everything was calmly reviewed and understood. That does not match my experience at all. I left uncomfortable, and still without proper answers. Patients deserve better communication, better bedside manner, and more respect than this.
No patient should be treated like this, especially in an emergency room. Very poor communication, very poor bedside manner, and a very disappointing experience overall.

Convert this hospital to office buildings! This is worst hospital I've ever been unfortunate to have a 2 day stay! Absolutely filthy dirty rooms. Instead of assisting patients that are ambulatory to the restroom I was straight cathed. The reason I was not able to ambulate to the restroom was my 02 tubing didn't reach! Any idiot knows to get longer tubing! Not these nurses! After having a BM in the bed I was straight cathed laying in feces and subsequently became septic with an E. Coli urinary tract infection and admiited to SSM Lake St. Louis Saint Josephs. My call light was a
Ignored for 58 minutes. My room door was kept shut so I couldn't call out for assistance. Staff would forget to shut off the big over head light when they left the room. When family came to check on me becuase I conveyed the neglectful situation, the staff were rude and wouldn't allow them to check on me. The Charge Nurse on the GI floor is ignorant and unprofessional. She lacks basic English and has no communication skills. English is her 1st language! Shut this hospital down. I regret that my physicians are affiliated with this hospital! Shame, shame, shame!

Icu was great. Floor four roo.m 410? Nurses could see my room perfectly. Asked for several times for help never got it and accused of falling out of bed when I tried to straighten my own covers. After the second incident of accusing me of falling out of bed when they didn't come to help I slid out if bed a 2nd time because of blue plastic mattress covering when trying to straighten out my covers again i slid out sgian. I never fell..you received letters and called from my daughter kristine. I told my son to bring. Me clothes I was going home. They said no and I told them they couldn't keep me. They said rehab and I said my house is set up for handicap and I have several exercise equipment I had to wait on no one for help. I now walk without my cane or walker.

As hospital stays go, DePaul hospital has you're their game. It is a large facility, but not so large that the rims aren't accessible. The food was good and the menu was pretty extensive, as hospitals go. The nursing staff was MARVELOUS! What was amazing for me was how my growing shortness of breath was handled. I don't know if every hospital system has a rapid response team, but this one does. If ever you're in the St. Louis area and have a medical emergency, God forbid, request DePaul hospital.

I had an experience at SSM Health DePaul Hospital this past Friday that I will never forget, and I feel so grateful to share it.
Despite how busy it was, the team immediately took my condition seriously.
At one point, it felt like there were 10 people around me all working quickly and efficiently- and yet, everything felt calm and controlled. The staff kept reassuring me, explaining every step, and telling me not to panic while also making it clear they needed to move fast. That balance of urgency and compassion meant everything to me.
I stayed overnight, and every single nurse who cared for me was incredible, kind, attentive, and genuinely compassionate. They didn’t just do their jobs; they truly cared. The doctor I saw the next day, the therapists, and all the medical staff were equally amazing. I only wish I had written down everyone’s names so I could thank them individually.
I also want to recognize the imaging team who handled my CT scan and MRI, they were kind, patient, professional, and reassuring throughout the process. Even the cleaning staff were kind and respectful, which speaks volumes about the culture of care at this hospital.
From the moment I entered to the moment I left, I felt supported, cared for, and safe. In such a scary situation, that means more than words can express.
To everyone at DePaul Hospital: thank you for your kindness, your professionalism, and your compassion. You made a difficult experience so much easier, and I am truly grateful. God bless you all 🙏🏾
