- JBJoel Borders4 days ago1.0I used to enjoy attending this YMCA. I often times work late and can’t get there until 8-8:15 unfortunately and at times even later. I do my best not to show up at close, but I truly enjoy the steam room even if its only ten minutes. The employees used to understand this and try to accommodate all patrons. However recently I have seen the environment take a turn. I have seen a Black man harassed for working out at around 8:40-8:45 but not a White man doing the same thing. Ive always been respectful and left the building at the designated time after grabbing my things out of the locker room or gym. Today I went and the doors were locked at 8:30. They told me this was always how they did it but Ive never had that experience until now. The gentleman then proceeded to tell me the facilities close at 8:45 what can you do in 10 minutes? What I do in that time frame is my business as I pay for a membership that allows me usage of the facilities during the designated time. I get it I’ve been that employee who just wants to go home but for some of us the YMCA is home and we cherish every minute whether its 10-15 or an hour.

Months later I check in they say they’re working on it. More months pass and I see they refunded my account. No communication, no “sorry we can’t accommodate you”. Very disheartening. I expected more from them especially since they pride themselves on inclusion. I would’ve been fine if they’d just said they couldn’t do it from the beginning.

Enter the Twilight Zone of poor management. Fill the hottub up at 8:30pm, not the middle of the day when members are still walking in. Common sense.
