Stopped in the Waugh Chapel Safeway Pharmacy for a flu shot. Posted hours said the opened at 9am. Sat in parking lot from 7:45 till 9. Went in, waited a couple minutes while pharmacist finished dusting counter. Asked him if they had flu shots and how long it would take. he said a few minutes. I filled out the single sheet of paper, handed it to him and he told me to wait by the chairs in front of the Quest door (well he pointed that way, I added the description). The time was 9:08, checked because I was on my way to work. I waited several minutes, 2 women showed up and went inside the Quest door. One said she was getting a shot. At 9:25, I glanced over to the pharmacy counter and someone was there. I walked over to ask how much longer I had to wait. The pharmacist was on the phone. While I waited I chatted with the woman who said she just arrived and had to fill a prescription. Normal stuff. When the pharmacist hung up I asked how much longer would it be. He said he would take care of the waiting patient then check the system. WHAT? I had been there for 25 minutes and he was taking care of a person who arrived well after me? I pointed that out and he said he was waiting for my insurance authorization no and didn’t know how long it would take. Again… WHAT? I told him I didn’t want the shot anymore, I had to go to work and told him to cancel the authorization. Went somewhere else after work, in and done in 15 minutes including insurance verification. Not 25 minutes and waiting… Incompetent or poor processes?

We were new to the area and chose Safeway Pharmacy due to close proximity. After 9 months, we’ll be switching and trying out somewhere new. Pros - Great customer service - very kind, very professional, very helpful staff. We always have courteous interactions. Cons - Too much waiting! I don’t know if they need more staff, or what — but we always wait way longer than any other pharmacy we’ve ever used. If I call in a prescription, it can be many hours before it’s ready. The average wait once your prescription is ready and you’re in-store can range anywhere from 15-30 minutes. We’ve come in at many different off-peak and peak times alike, and the wait is just a killer. In comparison to other pharmacies we’ve used, the difference is substantial. Off to find somewhere new.
