Club Pilates Bethesda is a boutique Pilates studio specializing in reformer fusion classes for anyone, at any age or fitness level. Pure to Joseph Pilates’ original Reformer-based Contrology Method, but modernized with group practice and expanded state-of-the-art equipment, Club Pilates offers high-quality, life-changing training at a surprisingly affordable price.
I started going to the studio after I had back surgery two years ago. After multiple physical therapy (PT) appointments, I was kind of done with PT. I signed up at this studio and was surprised at how many of the things that they teach were things that I was doing in PT! I have now been going for about two years and absolutely love it! All the teachers are extremely well-versed in Pilates, and although they all have different teaching styles, they are all great in their own way. After years and years of waking up with an aching back or something hurting on my body, I have been pain-free since doing Pilates and can say it’s primarily due to going to this studio. So happy I found them and am thankful every morning I get out of bed without something hurting!!

I had high hopes going into this Pilates class, but unfortunately, my experience was a complete letdown — mostly because of the instructor. Diamond... well, let’s just say she was not the supportive, motivating figure I was expecting.
First off, she was so focused on correcting everyone’s form in a way that felt more like a drill sergeant than a guide. Every time I got something wrong (which, sure, I did), her response was less about helping me get it right and more about making me feel like I was failing. At one point, she told me I was “doing it completely wrong” in front of the entire class — no encouragement, just pure judgment. There’s nothing wrong with corrections, but there’s a difference between helpful feedback and making someone feel like an idiot.
Her teaching style was very rigid — no room for any personal adaptations or suggestions. When I asked if I could modify a move due to a knee issue, she barely acknowledged me, rolling her eyes before muttering something about “just trying harder.” Not exactly the compassion I was looking for in a fitness class.
As for the class itself, she didn’t explain the moves clearly, and there was very little focus on helping anyone at their own pace. It was all about her way, and if you couldn’t keep up, too bad. By the end of the session, I felt frustrated, disheartened, and worse than when I started. Pilates is supposed to be about building strength and confidence, but all I left with was anxiety and sore muscles from trying to keep up with her unreasonable expectations.
Honestly, I think it’s time for Diamond to work on her people skills. Pilates should be inclusive and empowering, not an exercise in public humiliation. I won’t be back.

I have been a member here for years and the work has definitely changed my body. I'm a particular fan of the Transition classes which are a half step between Level 1.5 and 2.0 and are a great way to practice elements of the more challenging moves before advancing. Classes with Devon and Debbie and Angel are stellar. Each teaches in a unique style but they are all very knowledgeable about the reformer and body mechanics. They care about your safety and applaud your increasing strength. Classes are never the same and never boring!

Saturday mornings are my feel good
morning with Claudia at the Club Pilates in
Bethesda. I take two classes - , Classic Reformer
and Suspend. These two classes are the perfect fit for a complete workout and
have toned my body so much that I've found
curves that haven't been around since my
twenties (I'm now in my late 50s). Another
great thing with Claudia is her cuing. Her
instructions for each movement is so precise
that it is virtually impossible to do any of the
movements improperly. She also makes
sure to check on every single student to
ensure their bodies are in proper alignment
to prevent injuries and that each of the targeted
body parts are moving in sync to maximize the benefit to your core.
Pilates has been my go to exercise the last
few years. It's helped me feel grounded and
healthy. In fact, it’s the only exercise that I don’t dread doing. I actually look forward to going to class.
If your are ever in downtown
Bethesda, give Club Pilates a try. You will
get a full body workout. There are many
different classes that they offer to strengthen both your
core and your lungs. Most people don't
think that they get a good cardio workout
with Pilates but Club Pilate’s Suspend, HIIT
and Cardio Sculpt classes gets your heart
pumping without too much stress on your
joints.
