I’ve been coming to this store for years and have always gotten my medications here without any issues. I truly love the store and the staff has generally been great.
Right now, I’m dealing with a health issue, and my doctor prescribed a medication for me along with an additional over-the-counter option. Because the OTC item is expensive, my doctor wrote it as a prescription so I could save money by going through my insurance. As a single mom of two young kids, I try to avoid unnecessary expenses on myself so I can prioritize their needs.
When I came to pick up the prescription, I was told it was out of stock behind the counter. I simply asked when it might be back in stock, since I’m dealing with a painful sinus infection and really want to get ahead of it. I asked this politely and in a normal tone.
At that point, the blonde pharmacist (I believe she’s one of the leads) interrupted the conversation I was having with the staff member at the counter. With a smirk and in a noticeably passive-aggressive tone, she said, “You know you can buy that over the counter. It’s an over-the-counter medication.” Then she chuckled.
It felt incredibly rude and dismissive. It wasn’t just what she said it was her tone. Not everyone has the luxury of affording medications without insurance. I have children, bills, and responsibilities. If using my insurance makes something more affordable, of course I’m going to use it.
I’ve never had a negative experience at this store until now, and I’m not sure if she was having a bad day, but no one should leave a pharmacy feeling belittled or ashamed for trying to take care of their health affordably. I hope she sees this and understands that empathy and tone really do go a long way.

Very nice, friendly and helpful Staff at this store. Mary at North Plaza not so nice. She stole my credit card info and made up a grocery order. Since I wasn’t home and NOT expecting it, they took it back. Mary should be fired for credit card fraud.

CVS stopped carrying the brand of medication so I went to a few different pharmacies to no avail. I finally went to the Safeway pharmacy and they are telling me that they cannot confirm or deny if they carry this type of medication because it is a control substance. No other pharmacy that I went to gave me this type of answer. They want my doctor to send them a prescription and then they will tell me if they have it or not. That just seems like it wasted time for my doctor and me.
