Went to the ER last night around 10pm after getting pretty severe lacerations on two of my fingers where it was clear I had sliced nearly to the bone on one. I had my vitals taken extremely quickly by a very kind triage nurse, who took one look at the wound and the dressings I came in with and immediately handed me a full pack of gauze. I then proceeded to sit in the waiting area for the next 4 hours, slowly bleeding through the gauze I'd been given. After applying the last gauze sheet in the box, I decided to go up to the desk to get a timing update and was told I could expect another approximately 4 hour wait, which would put me outside the window of even being able to receive stitches. Luckily or not, depending on your point of view, I have backcountry wilderness first aid training/experience and supplies, so I decided to go home and use these to irrigate the wound, close and dress it, and finally be able to take some pain killers. I scheduled a Tdap booster in the morning at the local CVS. Most frustrating in this scenario, was the lack of information provided up front. All other ERs I have visited have gotten me in and out FAST for treatment of a laceration due to how quick and easy they normally are to deal with, so I (unfortunately) assumed that would be the case here. I wish someone would have just said either when I came in or at the end of the vitals check, that they likely weren't going to be able to see me in time to receive stitches so I would be able to choose what I wanted to do; wait or go. I also would have taken pain killers pretty immediately instead of waiting and thinking that I'd be receiving something when brought back for treatment. I understand and feel for the staff as they were kind, and trying their best while being extremely short handed, but it was an extremely frustrating and painful experience for me and I can't in good conscience recommend this center to anyone for emergencies.
