I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer about 8 months ago. I was being treated by an eye doctor at Tufts Medical Center, and she sent me for an MRI because she knew I had more going on than just an issue with my eye. I did have more going on. I had a tumor on my brain. Through further testing a nodule in my right lung was discovered. It was after that, that I met my wonderful oncologist & the amazing team of people who care for cancer patients on the 8th floor of South Building or South 8. The whole floor is laid out in a way to make it easy for us, the patients. I get my blood drawn there, I see my doctor's there, I pick my meds up at the pharmacy there & I receive my chemotherapy there. I can also see the social worker there, find a new wig, for free, there, or receive a free Reiki session there. Everyone who works on South 8 is kind, compassionate & caring. I mean everyone. The doctors, nurses, phlebotomists, pharmacists, social workers, medical assistants, the folks who check you in for your appointment & the folks who make your next appointment on your way out. All of them. Total sweethearts.
The care I'm receiving is top notch. The cancer had spread from my lung to my trigeminal nerve to my brain stem, my adrenal glands and my spine. I first received radiation treatment for the tumors on my trigeminal nerve & brain stem using what my Dr's call Gamma Knife. I then started chemo & immunotherapy. After 3 months I had a PET scan that showed no cancer on my adrenal glands, my spine, my trigeminal nerve & only a tiny bit left on my brain stem! Amazing. Months later and I'm still doing great, even the nodule in my lung is getting smaller. Positive thinking is always a plus, but I give all credit to HaShem(G-d) (Hello to my Jewish brothers & sisters), to my Dr's, and the entire team who work to care for us patients on South 8.
I highly recommend this special place to those who need the specialized care they provide on South 8.
