I would feel negligent as a parent if I did not post a review encouraging parents to NOT take their children to Children’s Hospital. This institution practices arrogant, small minded medicine that causes more harm to families. I’m aware our situation is a very delicate one, so I am more than willing to give grace to the people that may not have handled everything perfectly. However, there is no excuse for the behavior of the staff and clinicians of this institution. Our daughter passed away during her hospital stay. She was found unresponsive and was rushed to the hospital. She was ultimately declared brain dead. When it was time to remove her from life support, we asked if my husband and I could both hold her to say goodbye. the respiratory therapist, Angie, was called to help us maneuver all of her breathing tubes and lines, audibly groaned and complained. It was so terrible that the nurse and I awkwardly did it by ourselves. Once my daughter passed, the “child life specialists” came in the room to create mementos of our daughter. They took hand prints and feet prints of her (pictured below). They couldn’t even be bother to stamp her right foot…they did her left foot twice. They also asked if I’d like a lock of her hair, to which I said absolutely not. My daughters hair belongs on her head. However, when I received the package of her hand/feet prints, there was a bag of her hair in it. It was still greasy from her brain dead test.
When I reached out to the hospital to express my hurt and disappoint as to how the situation was handled, they verbally apologized, and I received a canned apology letter in the mail. The letter was addressed to my dead daughter…
This is just a microcosm of the care we received at Children’s. In addition, our Intensivist failed to perform several tests that would’ve identified my daughter’s cause illness. We had to find out posthumously about all the missed opportunities for medical interventions that could have shed some light on her cause of death. Their care is arrogant at best, dangerous at worst.
There’s a reason Ochsner Pediatrics is ranked #1 in the state. Go there.
Children’s, before you respond with you copy and paste response to these reviews, save it. I will not “follow up,” a lot of good it did me the first time around. Shame on you and the environment you let your staff cultivate.
