Alissa, Julia, and Brooke were all very welcoming and helpful on my first visit. Brooke welcomed me and checked me in before introducing me to the instructor. Alissa gave me feedback and encouragement throughout the class. Julie checked in after the class about my experience. Definitely felt attended to and welcomed. The workout itself was new to me but good challenge. Looking forward to coming back and getting better. Brooke welcomed everyone by name; Alissa encouraged people by name, very personalized service and vibe in general.

I arrived 18 mins early and was not greeted at the door. I wandered into the studio and asked a fellow classmate about where the equipment was stored. I went back out to the desk and the lady was speaking with someone else. I went ahead and gathered the same equipment I saw the classmate had gathered and again returned to the desk to introduce myself. This time the lady at the desk did acknowledge me and I let her know I was new. She stared at me for a moment then said ‘oh! I was expecting someone I guess I just got distracted’. At this point other classmates had arrived and it was very noticeable that I was the only woman of color and have a very different body type than the other clients. I was asked to sign some paperwork which included a waiver. There was no section for emergency contact but there were several questions about weight loss goals. I asked the lady if there was anything I needed to know and she introduced me to the instructor and referred my questions to her. I let the instructor know I was new and had an idea that the class would be intense so any modifiers she could offer would be helpful for me. I also asked if there was anything I needed to know that I hadn’t asked about and was told no I would be fine I could head into the studio to take my place. Mind you I had no explanation for length or type of warm up or if we would stretch or I should do so on my own. I was then told there was no place to refill my re-usable bottle with filtered water but I could purchase water which is not very ecological. I headed into class and stretched on my own while waiting for it to begin. We began the workout and about 5 mins in I’m beginning to sweat a bit and getting the blood pumping when the instructor approaches me and with out removing the microphone announced that I need the specialized socks and asks me to leave the class. This was HUMILIATING. Again I had arrived almost 20mins early and at this point had been working out for several minutes. There had been ample opportunities to inform me of the dress code or point it out on the paperwork, which did not happen. I then asked the girl at the desk if I could go home and get what I needed and return for a mid-morning class (historically the least busy) and she said no I would need to book and pay for a separate class. Just to reiterate- I was the only woman of color, the only overweight woman in the room, I arrived early enough that I could have returned home or scheduled a later class, I was asked to leave after the class began and it was announced very obviously. I am astounded and honestly it’s so embarrassing. I shouldn’t even have to defend this- I may not be the ideal body type but I SHOWED UP. I am putting in the work and I can’t believe I was so embarrassed and discouraged from returning.
