  After almost two years and well over $20,000, Home Instead decided we weren’t a “good fit” for them and gave us one week notice before dumping us without any replacement. All we wanted was professional caregivers to help Mom.  She is 95 and living alone in her own house.  She does have her mental capacities but needs some physical help, as Home Instead’s website promises. Just a few examples: Home Instead’s employees refused to help her take a shower for two weeks.  When she wrote out a grocery list, they substituted what they thought she should have instead of what she wanted.  Even though against Home Instead’s policies, the “Care Pros” (their terminology) often took food from her or would buy things they wanted to consume with her money at the store.  Many times they would not return either a change or the receipt, until we specifically requested them. We never asked Home Instead to do anything outside of the expectations of a professional caregiver.  Yet they determined that our expectations of a professional were not a “good fit” for them.  When I told Mom that the company had dropped us, her first response was, “I’m glad we’re rid of them!”
