Been going here for the last couple of years. I called several times and left a voice message, which was never returned. Today I was fortunate enough to speak to a woman who claimed that she was a manager of the practice. My family is of limited resources, and I was trying to explain to her how they’re referring us to a place that is expecting us to pay for something that is already covered. Clearly, the place isn’t a reputable place that they’re referring to and the only thing that she could tell me was that that is who they refer there’s not a lot of people that take our insurance. This is Chicago. There’s lots of places that take all kinds of insurance. I asked her about her customer service and how I felt very dismissed and that she was not helping me to try to find a solution and the only thing she could say was to call my insurance and have the place investigated. Which is really great advice, but that doesn’t help me in the meantime to address the problem and why their practice is referring to a place that is trying to charge their customers cash for services that is covered under insurance. Especially families of limited needs. She hung up the phone on me. I love the doctor and I love the staff there but the Office manager customer service that she is setting for the standard for that office is enough for me to leave the practice. I sincerely apologize to the doctor there who’s always been courteous and understanding. And well, I understand the office manager isn’t the owner when I asked to speak to the doctor or the owner, she would not allow it. She offered a call back on Monday by rudely, interrupting me and then hanging up the phone. I’m very disappointed and offended by her behavior when I was trying to let them know that they’re referring people with limited needs to practice that’s trying to charge us cash. And she said there’s nothing that she can do about it, but that is the only place they referred to. She didn’t offer to take notes or speak to the owner or the doctor and try to find alternatives or even had any interest in following up w that office. Due to the dismissiveness, I am now wondering if this practice is pocketing some of the money as well . Seems like they’re preying on families w limited needs to me.

I got cleared for braces by family orthodontics just a few months ago when I was planning on getting braces and now im being told I have to pay 1,000+ when I just wanted a regular cleaning. Seems predatory to me - won’t be back

I had a very disappointing and concerning experience at this dental office while simply trying to establish care before my insurance changed. On 12/27, I came in for a general cleaning. I specifically booked my appointment with Dr.Vivan Vo and was never informed that this provider would not be present. I was not notified at booking, before arrival, or even when I was being prepped and going under for the procedure. This lack of transparency was extremely unsettling. The dentist I ended up seeing was rude, unfriendly, and very unprofessional. Despite already being in the chair, she dismissed me from the office and told me to come back less than 45 minutes later. When I returned, she only completed one filling instead of all that were planned. During this visit, I also had to physically stop the dental assistant because they were being excessively rough during the cleaning and flossing. I reported my experience to the front desk and was rescheduled for 12/31 to complete the remaining fillings with Dr. Vivan Vo. Dr. Vo was amazing — she was kind, informative, answered all of my questions, and made me feel safe and comfortable, along with her dental assistant. That visit was the only positive part of this experience. However, when checking out on 12/31, I was told my bill would be cheaper. When I asked why, I was informed that the previous provider I had seen on 12/27 was a per diem dentist and out of network. I questioned why I was never informed of this and why I wasn’t rescheduled once this was noticed — especially since I had originally booked with a different, in-network provider. The front desk staff initially argued with me and stated that she had told me, which was untrue. Only after I showed proof of our conversation did she admit that patients are not informed when a provider is out of network. This is extremely concerning, as it directly affects billing, insurance coverage, and informed consent. The front desk staff acted as if she could not find the name of the out of network dentist. I came to this office simply wanting to find a dentist before my insurance changed, and instead was met with poor communication, unprofessional conduct, rough treatment, and serious billing transparency issues that could have legal implications. I strongly urge this office to improve communication, professionalism, and disclosure practices so other patients do not go through the same experience.
