With a 1.7 out of 5-star rating, this experience sadly aligns with what many disabled customers have already reported. This company operates at an unacceptably slow pace for people who depend on mobility equipment to live, function, and remain safe.
There is a clear lack of urgency when it comes to disabled people who require life-changing and life-sustaining equipment. Delays are treated casually, as if our mobility, independence, and physical well-being are optional inconveniences rather than medical necessities.
Customer service has been consistently poor. Paperwork is delayed or mishandled, communication is lacking, and assistive device representatives appear to take their time with no apparent understanding of the real-world consequences for the person waiting.
Repair services are unpredictable — sometimes adequate, sometimes deeply inadequate — depending entirely on which technician shows up and what the issue happens to be. Even after contacting the regional manager directly, I have been ignored.
At this point, continued silence and inaction leave me no choice but to escalate this matter further. Disabled people should not have to fight this hard to receive equipment their health and safety depend on.

Why hand your business card out and say just give you a call if I have any questions if you don't answer or return calls? Called about a month ago and was told NSM was waiting on the return of a prior authorization they'd sent to my insurance company before moving forward. Nothing was ever sent to my insurance company. So I'm sitting here waiting for a power chair that's never going to get here! PS this began in August I believe.

We have been trying to get my sisters wheelchair fixed for months now I finally called and was told two weeks for insurance and 2 weeks for parts then they call to schedule repair and this is for every work order it seems her chair is never really fixed before other issues occur and takes months to even get a repair. It’s crazy ! Now her controller arm is completely off and she has no way to get around. It’s sad she has to stay in her apartment for months waiting on all the repairs 🥲

I purchased my chair in Indianapolis. Recently, when I had a major problem, they refused to help me. They told me I had to call a business in Illinois. My power chair was totally unusable. I called and a technician, David listened to my story patiently. When I was ready to retire for the night, the back of the chair automatically laid flat and none of the controls would function. David talked me through resetting the controls, and the chair went back into normal functions. he took about 15 minutes with me and had me straightened out with an operable chair. I had superb help.
Frequently Asked Questions About National Seating & Mobility
What makes NSM the preferred choice for obtaining mobility solutions?
At NSM, we are uniquely positioned to search hundreds of sources for the precise components needed to create a chair that is made specifically to meet the needs of each client. Each chair can be designed for maximum comfort and ease and will provide the specific therapeutic benefits prescribed for you by the health care team. But what really sets NSM apart is our approach. We work from the heart, honoring your journey of independence with efficient, friendly attention that puts your interests first. This is our life’s work—to help others move through life—and we take it very seriously.
How can I work with NSM for my mobility needs?
National Seating & Mobility is a member of your rehabilitation health care team. We work with your physician, nurses and therapists to provide a one-of-a-kind mobility solution customized to your needs and preferences. Because we work in a partnership with your health care team, we require a referral from them in order to be your mobility provider. To help ensure your choice of NSM, you should request that your physician and/or therapist select us as your provider of choice.
How long does it take to get a new power wheelchair from NSM?
NSM strives to complete each timeline phase as quickly as possible without compromising any step in the process. Please refer to this page for the full timeline. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Why must I see a doctor to get a wheelchair from NSM?
Our clients have mobility challenges and are referred to us by therapists and physicians to receive mobility solutions that meets all their unique needs. If you need a wheelchair, your best plan is to talk with your physician or therapist and get a thorough evaluation from a qualified Rehab Technology Supplier (RTS).
What if my medical condition changes?
Contact your local NSM branch and notify us of any changes that may affect the proper fit and function of your chair.
Are there any dangers in using an off-the-shelf wheelchair?
Definitely. A standard or not customized chair can cause more harm than good. People come in all shapes and sizes; their chairs must be designed to fit them. In severe situations, a standard or not customized chair may:
- Cause significant physiological and psychological problems
- Lead to an increase in dependence because it’s not used due to lack of comfort
- Cause pressure sores, or decubitus, due to improper cushioning
- Become obsolete quickly if not configured to “grow with the child”
- Become a major expense to replace or reconfigure, because most funding sources will only reimburse for a new chair every five years.
Do I have a choice of which mobility solutions company to use?
The choice of a wheeled mobility supplier is yours. Discuss your decision with your physician and therapist.
